Hodges Start...

Post by tomnilll »

Well I have to say, I am disappointed in my start at Hodges...but this is most likely due to the super inflated expectations I had built up over the long closure. But here goes...two days last Saturday 2-8 and today Sunday 2-16 for a total of 2 fish, but I will get to that in a second. First of all last week was the maiden voyage of my brand new Cumberland float tube and that did not go well...I have to say, it may not be for me, and the biggest problem was getting my fins on (because I am too fat!) and after that the rest of the trip seemed like slave labor... I am going to give it another try after I lose some weight (which I hope is soon) But...after ditching the tube and hitting the shore (for a few hours) I landed this monster and went home.

Today was much more enjoyable! I got to the visitor center just in time for there to be no line, got my ticket and headed over to Hernandez side...for a walk to the dam. Wasn't too far into my walk and bang! got this one on a spinner bait...my favorite way to catch a bass (Non-surface if I am being honest) took some line, because my drag was too loose...but was a fun fight and landed it at 7:20

I should have went home but at the time I did not know that this would be my last bite of the day...I walked almost to the dam and back with no luck and went home (Happy, I might add)

My realization is that catching first and then walking around bite-less is more enjoyable than walking around bite-less and then catching. Might have something to do with the size too...so I will need to collect more data, darn more fishing.

I wouldn't give up on the tube yet. Once you get it right it's hard to go back lol

Walking to the dam and back is a fun way to start loosing weight. Way to get out and enjoy the great outdoors =)

Nice report.
If you will notice most of us have some kind of other way of getting around on the water other then kicking or rowing.

Thanks for the report. From all I've talked to, you did much better than most. With like 4 inches of underwater visibility, it's wise to throw lures that either whir or rattle. Very few fish are oriented to any shorelines now with 57 degree water they're out in the "middle" and spread out everywhere per 12 hours on my Garmin.

Might have said HI to you on our walks. Was with my son and ran into on your way back from the dam. We went on a nice walk as well. 2 bass. Very slow. But fun day with the kids.

Fat guy float tube tip. When putting on fins, take a knee.

Was wondering why nobody fishing when I drove by. Seems silly these one-day-month closings.
