Stuff You Hear at City Park Ponds

I'll start.

1. "Are you fishing?"

2. "Are there actually fish in there?"

3. "Do you eat them?" "Why don't you eat them?"

4. "Can I have it then since you're throwing them back?"

5. "Did you catch that?! (While pointing at my swimbait)

Re: Stuff Your Hear at City Park Ponds

OMG..That is classic!
Like whatever you say or were going to say in response doesn't not mean anything because his buddy caught a bigger one than what you caught or are going to catch. ( Most likely it was a 5lb bass anyway that his buddy assumed weighed 10lbs..ha ha)

Re: Stuff Your Hear at City Park Ponds

Scott, this is actually a much more accurate description of the Barrett crowd. “Look how many dropshot and senko fish I caught!!!!! Never hear anyone trying to learn new baits to try and catch them in ways they can’t on the other lakes. Just want to feel like all-stars. To each his own I guess

Re: Stuff Your Hear at City Park Ponds

I got another one:

Whenever you land a fish, someone always says, "Looks like you've got dinner!"

The other day, I saw some dude making a video for his YouTube Channel, you know, the one where everyone always say, "Like and Subscribe!"

I'm seeing more and more of that.

Jeff, show him the ...

I could make an entire post about Stuff You Hear At the Barrett Lake Parking Line all to itself. :D

One of my all time favorite past times at Barrett is for my buddy and I to sit on the tail gate of the truck after ...

12/1-Lake Miramar update

Right before they closed Lake Miramar to all watercraft months ago, I had some really fun fishing trips.
Bass were on the chew on the handful of trips I made and only wished I fished earlier up there before they closed in September. In fact I had my most productive bass fishing day this year ...

End of year in a frozen land.

Well, my fishing year ended with not much of a bang up in prairieland. Most of the lakes to the north of where I live are frozen over, and much of the north end of Flaming Gorge is frozen over also. SinceI have no desire to shuffle out on frozen water, I have been driving south to hit warmer areas ...

Re: End of year in a frozen land.

Oooo pretty fish… But it does look cold…
Butch

Yup. The water started to freeze over right at the end of November. I was surprised to see my high plains lake completely covered over in ice on December 5th. On the same day, I spotted a deer stuck out on the ice of a nearby smaller lake. She ...

Re: 12/1-Lake Miramar update

The good news is Bass are tough. I mean they survive just fine in the sewage that is the SD River. I know of a population of Bass that live in a Golf Pond that is no more than 3 feet deep and dyed green. It is filled with “reclaimed” water out of the Purple Pipes. They also survive in the Santa Ana ...

Re: Upper Otay??

I wouldn't waste my time with Upper. I've tried a few times in the distant past without much success. The city used to use it as a breeding ground for bass and other fish but that was long ago. It is totally ignored these days and I have heard of a few die offs as well.

Re: Upper Otay??

Instead of inquiring, why don’t you go up there and give it a shot? It seems to me that there isn’t anybody talking about upper Otay. Do they not want us to fish their secret hole? All the lakes have die offs, they rarely impact the overall population of gamefish. Unless this pond has been affected ...

Re: Upper Otay??

Has anyone fished upper Otay in the recent past? I fished lower Otay a couple weeks f weeks ago and decided to hike up there afterward. I'd never been up there before. It looks like it should hold fish albeit not very accessible. Inquiring minds is all.

I haven't explored there in about 5 ...

Re: Upper Otay??

I think the small fish along the shore are probably mosquito fish (gambusia), the county will stock them in stagnant water. I have been around the lake mountain biking and have not seen any signs of fish feeding on the surface which I used to often see before the big die off.

The die off might have ...

Re: Upper Otay??

I fished Lake Sherwood today in Woodland Hills. It had 0 inch visibility, the water was 54 degrees, and there was a 20 mph winds. There was no sign of any fish. I landed 11 Bass from 8-2 pm. All deep in the Reeds, the Bass were caught flipping weedless wacky rigged Senkos. Looking at a Lake and ...
