How do you decide where to fish?

Salt or fresh? Bay or surf? Creeks or lakes? Which bay? Which beach? Which lake? Which creek? Which area? Rocks or sand? Grass or channels?

Oh, first-world San Diegan problems.

Every time I get the opportunity to fish, it's "struggle" on where to go. Doesn't help that I only get a few hours, one ...

Re: How do you decide where to fish?

Depends on time. 45 minutes, mission Bay is close, a little more time and SSC or LJ come into play. A whole day? IV every time.. otherwise I'll just do what I can and not worry about it...

Friday afternoons I need some help... Just for San Diego! You can make your own, add your own choices.

This will probably come in handy more often than the current conditions dictate.

During the summer, when my availability aligns with the incoming tide ...

Re: Bye-Bye Miramar!

Isn’t the toilet to tap supposed to sterilize the water hence no fish will live? Bummer

Not sure where youre getting your info inregards to no fish due to implementing the recycled water into the lakes....
Its not like it's 100% recycled waste water entering the lake...

Re: Bye-Bye Miramar!

San V is working on a project to make hydroelectric power by pumping water up to a yet to be built lake..and then send the water back to San V to make electricity..still in the planning stages I believe. I would think it is like what they do at Hodges and Olivenhain reservoirs.

Beyond my pay ...

Re: What fish is this?

Schooling a fish biologist with wiki links. Bravo

Pulled straight from Dill and Cordone (1997), History and status of introduced fishes in California 1871-1996 Fish Bulletin 178, but it could be misinformation...what do I know?

I was not contradicting anything you said, read my post again ...

The Flaming Gorge finally thaws out. 04/10/24

Last week was the last holdout for ice in the Flaming Gorge. Everything below and above Little Firehole was open water.

Big head and tail, with not much between… And even a skinny 3.31# trout would get my blood boiling… Nice fishing… And I enjoy your post… So thanks..

Great report and that's one crazy looking pink brown! Glad that you had fun at Flaming Gorge.

Do you ever fish below the dam on the Green River? That's some of the best trout fishing in the U.S. and can be good year-round!! There are up to 15,000 trout per mile along there.

I used to fly out ...

Re: The Flaming Gorge finally thaws out. 04/10/24

Trout in big reservoirs will often take on a sea run like appearance. In the case of browns, they start to look more like a landlocked atlantic salmon which they are related to. In some areas where they share watersheds in the northeast, there are even signs to help people tell the difference ...

Uintas for trout will be quantity over quality and provide much better mountain outdoors solitude for sure. I get it.

There's some really cool high elevation hikes up there where you can find lakes with tigers and even Arctic grayling! Lots of brookies in the creeks too and if you're lucky you ...

Donald and Keiffer stirring

Well for the first few hours it seemed like bad business as usual at the old lake. Just cold and rainy! The game plan was to throw a buzz bait through flooded brush. If that failed, a spinnerbait through flooded brush. I just knew they had to be in flooded brush! Well, if they were, they were not ...

Wrong Again!

I said last week that it seemed the bite at Sutherland was stirring. That judgment was premature! The bite, it seems, is again cold as ice. At least it appears that way to me and a couple of friends who will remain nameless unless they choose to chime in. Between us we caught 4 fish. Overcast early ...

Re: Wrong Again!

It was so exciting as I prepped my fishing gear days before my trip and was pretty confident it was going to be some great fishing despite the long drive up the lake. Besides a selection of proven worms, I carefully packed every bait that had been successful over the years and the whole drive there ...

Re: Wrong Again!

When o when will that lake turn back on. Glad to know the shad were spawning, sounds like a spinnerbait will start to work again early in the morning. At least you caught something, no fun getting skunked. I went twice last month and only got two bites, one of which was in the parking lot ...

San Veeeeee 5/14

Rented a boat at San V today and a fellow SDFisher joined me for the morning. Some froggy looking water but no bites on either the frog or the buzzbait. Water is pea green soup from the grass scum - not just the surface, it’s throughout the water column in places.

Plastics were the goods again ...
