I got super lucky this afternoon at San V. After catching a bunch of bass on dropshots, I decided to target a few panfish laate in the day based on my meter readings and WHAMO, blessed with a tanker panfish, a 4.2 lb. redear.

She was caught on 2 lb line and a piece of nightcrawler, 18 feet deep on ...

Holy shit, that is a fucking monster. Unfortunately it probably died but damn! You weren't fishing for bass with a 2lb setup on hand.


OK, but I caught eight bass, and one panfish. Yes its possible that she swam off strong and then died. The stringer is through the lip, not the gills and nothing ...

My second trip to San V this year, and found the bluegill and redear biting pretty good in the late afternoon. Even some lowly bass.

Dropshotting half a crawler gets it done. All fish were released.

Consider time of day. I can get the bass to bite all day long but 5 pm can be a light-switch factor for these bluegill/redear.

Agree, Friday late afternoon was a ghost town at the ramp. Weekends of course are a whole different story.

Really fun panfishing again today and upped gear to 6 lb. braid with 6 lb. leader, found the fish in the same areas. Targeting around 15 to 18 feet deep on nightcrawlers at the outer edge of the brushlines, similar to Friday's catch but added a fat 2.2 ...

Walked down to a favorite beach spot to fish a weighted weedless swimbait (shown) along the sand/rock shoreline here, with much smaller surf today.

The recent south swells have migrated tons of sand north on my beach, and have unburied the local acres of eel grass - which is all dead and drifting ...
