Took my family in May a lot during the shad spawns, and my daughters clocked 200 of these in one morning. They kept a tally. :D A flylined 'cube' of senko on a #10 mosquito hook works well.
Double hookups all day long

Hodges Crappie Hunt October 22
Went on Sunday to Lake Hodges with the Hobie looking for some crappie. Got there late after breakfast, like 7:15 am and picked up a nice one on my second cast. Water was off-color coffee with 1' of visibility on top, and the deepest channel straight west of the ramp is about 10' deep now out by the ...

Re: War mouth sunfish
I caught several oddly-colored fish out of the San Diego River a couple decades ago; only saw them in one particular area. Their mouths were bigger than a bluegill's....rounded pectoral fins like a greenie...but the only color on them was brown...even their eyes. Yeah, I know. Pics or it didn't ...

Re: Santee Trout Opener - Video
Thanks Roy, I love that place ... except for trout. :? LMK if you want to put the kids on some wintertime shore bites on trout. Its been great in San Diego already but it really heats up through December and January, mid-mornings. A couple of lake options. Crappie rods work great and I have all the ...

Re: San V report on 11/13/23
I hadn't thought about it, but you might be right, it could be a hybrid redear with a bluegill, because those grow pretty fast and are stocky.
That's a very nice bluegill. A pure 'coppernose'. The redear and hybrids have speckles on the lower half of the body and face. All types are shown ...

Re: Otay Ultralight 11/25
Very nice it sounds like you had tons of fun out there, THANK YOU for the report and sure you'll enjoy those tacos! I'm glad most people would rather fish for bass. I found schools of gills from my kayak in 20' off the main lake flats at El Cap on Saturday. Not big ones but fun size on light gear ...

PB Mullet on a swimbait, SD River channel 12/27
Ran out to the MB jetty to make a few casts and ended with a few species mostly all on the weedless 4" white slim swimmer. Caught my first mullet ever, just after dark, thought maybe it was a baby corvina or a bonefish at first.
Macks were rolling through the jetty channel, and a couple baby ...

Re: TP Feeding Frenzy 12/27/23 ???
It was also wild "morning full of life" here in the WindanSea area on 12/27. Acres of birds, terns, shearwaters, gulls, pelicans, cormorants and loons etc. Some schools of anchovies up in knee deep water it was reported by a friend. He hooked something good-sized but lost it when a pelican somehow ...

Re: TP Feeding Frenzy 12/27/23 ???
Just checked the Surfline Cams, and the birds are feeding heavy at Torrey Pines today. Swell is gonna be jumping all day today and maxxing out at 10-15 feet the next couple of days - beware of huge sets!

Re: TP Feeding Frenzy 12/27/23 ???
I went out to the MB jetty and it happens to be closed due to the swell.
Yes. For good reason. The waves are 15 to 20 feet outside the jetty and rolling across and OVER the outside breakwalls. I was there at sunset and watched the Legacy (whale watch boat) try to enter the closed out Mission ...

Re: Lake Hodges Opening Week 2024
Crappie jigs caught both a 6.5 lb and a 7+ lb bass last weekend on Saturday.
I just got 1 little one this week and a better one last week on the UL 500 size spinning reel fishing the main channels with jigs, in my kayak.

Re: C&R gone too far?
Basically says optimal harvest varies by water, but generally there's nothing wrong with keeping 12 to 14 inch bass within the limits, especially if they seem underfed / malnourished. Go easy on those guys putting a few of those average bass on their stringers because they're probably helping the ...

Re: Fat Bluegill, San Vicente ... again? May 21
...
I'm looking at Blackclouds' post here, and it's in the springtime.
What's the likely bluegill pattern now, Please? Where to start looking. Points?
I generally do not fish these in the summer, only because I'm busy with other fish elsewhere near home. Last week
