Re: Fat Bluegill, San Vicente ... again? May 21
Thank you for the bluegill tips. I had no idea you were catching them where and how you described; good work!
I'll predict in five more years almost everyone will have forward sonar and our lakes will probably be crowded throughout fall, winter, and spring when people realize what's actually ...

Surf Barracuda - Labor Day 2024
On Labor Day sunset, I caught a legal barracuda from the surf, 28 inches, on a t-rigged white fluke in the La Jolla area.
I caught a short one from the sand in June, but this was a big surprise.

Re: Surf Barracuda - Labor Day 2024
Assume you knew not a hali peeling your line ! Great catch & congrats !
Thanks yes a novelty and very memorable event! It was almost dark, fish was pulling pretty hard at times. I was thinking a big calico. But I had no idea what it was until it was laying on the wet sand. Even then, it took me ...

Murray Bluegill 09-22-24
Haven't kayaked Murray in years but lazy-launched the kayak into the breeze after lunch at like 1 pm. :)
Headed to the west side of the lake and was surprised the bass were crashing on bait very randomly, here and there. Threw some small stuff at them, hooked one on a spoon and I got a couple ...

Re: Monterey and vicinity
Seeing 30 foot surf from the beach will just look like lots of whitewater almost everywhere, unless you have a pier, or surfers for perspective. Up there, go out to Mavericks(HalfMoonBay) or Santa Cruz (Steamers Lane) to see the surf display. Sunday(today), you can tune into the Eddie Aikau contest ...

Re: Amazing Murray Story 12/27
Rapala Jigging Rap chrome/blue, 5/8 - 7/8 oz was extremely popular with the bass guys for years, many years ago. With live forward-facing sonar (FFS), its nuts. Bass fishing can be easier and faster than summer because they'll be all bunched up together in one spot on the shad schools. They can even ...

2025 Lake Hodges Opener
Fished Hodges from my kayak on Wednesday Feb 5, with my Garmin Livescope. Overall, very slow fishing for bass and crappie for everyone! The lake is much lower than last year - remember that we had tons of rain in January 2024 and none so far this year. The water is a brown soup, visibility ...

Hodges and out past Ramona kayaking
I have not posted much but have been kayak fishing crappie between shore bay halibut trips and pond bass on weather days.
Lake Hodges 2/16 and 2/22. A few crappie and a couple nice bass both trips, some crappie released. Using various crappie jigs "out in the middle". Water temp 58 early and 62 ...

Re: Question for the group
Oceanside area, local, how about Lake San Marcos? I've heard good things about the bass fishing there too.
Otherwise Lower Otay would probably be best city lake if you had a boat or a kayak to fish outside the tules. No boat? From a shoreline, maybe Lake Murray for the most shore fishing options ...

They would be along shorelines by now. Usually by late March they are in spawn mode. Bobber/jig anywhere shallow.professionull wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 1:50 pm Are the crappie out in the middle of the lake still or have they moved in to the sticks close to the bank?

May 2025 Panfish
May ... hammering the panfish as usual. Monthly best went 2.28 lb. from San Vicente on a nightcrawler. Also that day, caught lots of bass up to 3 lb and a dozen other nice bluegill fishing live bait in a cove area near brush. I often find the bite picks up late in the day.

June 2025 Panfish Santee Lakes
Have fished successfully at Santee Lakes for bluegill and bass lately. The hotter the better. I'm fishing my UL trout rod, usually no weight or float and getting some on the micro-popper too. If you have kids this is an easy place for catching fish, 4# or 6# fluoro line and small #10 mosquito hooks ...

Fishing off the Rocks, 2025 Weird Year
Hey guys! I caught three ODDBALLs yesterday on the zman dropshot and that ONE looks like an albino sheephead! Or is it crossed with a Calico bass?! WTF
It's been a VERY slow year around here ... for me. Occasional standard issue short calicos, short seabass, and short cuda plus this misc oddball ...
