Doheny surf fishing?

Post by Mike M »

This may be a longshot, but has anyone been to Doheny State Beach recently? I'll be there mid-day this Monday, 10/12.

My biggest question... is the beach still there after the recent large waves?

Next question, has anyone caught or seen sand crabs there?

Mike, I can't help with the Doheny questions, but aren't we supposed to get rain and a swell from Rachel on Monday?... Be careful, Doheny floods sometimes...

Oh man, thank you for that, Butch. Maybe I should update the post to good places to eat instead :)

My son has a 1 day event in San Juan Capistrano and I asked if I could drive with him and then spend the day doing whatever.

No problem Mike.. Can’t help much with the eats.. The Fisherman on San Clemente Pier is good sea food , and South Of Nicks in San Clemente is good Mexican.. A little upscale…

Just a thought. There is a Park Lake not far away called Laguna Lake. It is off Sand Canyon in Laguna Niguel. It has some surprisingly good Bass fishing at times. The Fishing can be great in the rain. Flylining Nightcrawlers with your light Surf Fishing gear might be a lot of fun….The actual surf will be blown out and the Harbor will be full of trash…

@Mike M You should visit Dana Point harbor there, all the iconic restaurants and bars like Turks and Wind by the Sea will all be destroyed in 2 weeks. Even Dana Dwarf will be destroyed but will stay open for business.

The little jetty right next to Doheny Beach I fish a lot. It has big flat rocks easier to walk than most jetty's. I have always had good luck a little ways down where the bait receiver is. Lugeworms have been my best bait, also had luck with little shiny lures for cuda.

I thought you were predicting a hurricane until I read up on what's happening there with the revitalization project.

LOL!! I thought the same thing. I know we're having some stormy weather down here right now but it's not THAT bad
