Re: Best Wind Direction ?
Its always interesting to see these types of responses and learn that I'm doing things the opposite of the correct way almost every time, haha. No wonder I have such little luck. I've always cast with the wind, with the thought process being my bait would naturally move/float on its own and not ...

Re: Shiners back in stock?
You can always bypass the middleman and hit up alpine fisheries. Their schedule makes it hard sometimes. If you wanna fish early, they aren’t open early so it’s either fish a late morning/evening or buy the night before

Re: Fun Catches of 2025. Share yours...
I went through and picked out some of my favorites from the year. This was my second year back in the game after years out, and at times it felt a little foolish trying to do a bit of everything. It felt a bit like whack-a-mole trying to keep up with the surf, the lagoons, and freshwater but the ...

Re: Fun Catches of 2025. Share yours...
Was hoping for a 20 pound+ lake trout last year, but never got one that topped my present PB of 18.05 But I did end the year with a bang, catching this 34 inch, 14.40 pound laker on Dec. 31st.

Nothing spectacular this year...
This one was notable because it was the first trip after a big medical issue....and was just happy to get back out there. A fat stocker from Tuff Campground, near Tom's Place, caught using a homemade spinner and some Oxford commas.

Re: Fish recipes
This miso marinade is easy and delicious. I bake whole fish (rock, sheep, perch) in the over for about 45 min then the family devours.

Re: Harbor Island. 11/1
Just got to love those Bay Groupers. If you absolutely, positively, have to get bent, they are the go-to fish. Most of the methods are similar to Largemouth, in fact last week I got 7 Spotties on a Jig after lunch at Newport Harbor and then stopped at my local Park Pond, threw the same Jig for three ...

Best luck so far
Well. I’ve had my moments of luck so far, but nothing quite like this one yet. Fishing one of my go to spotty spots, and was working my last few casts before heading back to the car. It was after sunset, and I had seen a few small ripples on the water. I had a free rig tied in with a 3” fluke, so I ...

Huntington Beach 06/06/25
A steady, if unspectacular small to medium BSP bite.. Ended with 15-20 perch on B2B sand crabs… The perch were smaller than what I was getting in Pacific Beach a week or two ago… Water was cooler, with surf manageable.. Little to no salad to deal with… A buddy managed a 15" corb, but that was the ...

Mision Beach past week
Got out for a late afternoon/sunset session last Thursday. Plenty of sand crabs but unless softshell or with roe, not getting hit. Half dozen or so of the usual hand size perchies, nothing bigger than 8". Had 2 good non perch hits and fish were on momentarily then unbuttoned. Suspect large corbina ...

MB again 6/12
On the sand at 6am, an hour after the earlier minus low. Targeted hali's with swim baits for about 45 minutes but no takers, just one bump. Switched over to c - rig and got on to the perch right away. Pulled in 8 over next hour, usual 6-8" but one 10 that wrestled pretty good. All on soft shell ...

Re: Solana Beach 6/15
...and crabs were a little tough to come by but caught 6 perch (personal record for a session!) on both blood and camo Gulp sand worms. Surf was on the heavier side, little bit of kelp, but all in all a fun day on the shore...
Sounds like a fun session :)
As for sand crabs, I use a homemade ...

Re: Mission Beach 6/19
Sometimes the current can be your friend . Even a small trough or hole can hold fish that are just waiting for the current to bring them the food . Lazy bastards . Even strong longshore current can make a difference . If you see the current sweeping into the darker areas indicating even minimally ...

Funky tides during times I like to fish so took this week off. Bonus points to you for giving it a go. You're putting in the time & over due to connect. Hang in there bud.
