Re: Mission Beach 7/6

I’m not a hardcore kinda fisherman… I do it for fun, and don’t make it work… I’ve fished my whole life, but have never been fanatical about gear or methods… Most of the guys I know that catch big fish regularly aren’t like that.. They work hard for their fish… I’ve caught my share of large fish, but ...

Re: South Mission 7/6

Nice! I too was at South Mission around this time. I tried to power through the high tide at 8:30 but got little to no action, so at that point I was mostly just enjoying the sun which had come out.

I did get a late, huge hit and saw the same silver you mentioned but I too lost it. Definitely ...

Mission and Pacific Beaches 7/9

Had a few leftover bloodworms getting ripe in the frig so headed out to MB this AM. Conditions not ideal, strong surge, somewhat dirty water & lot of salad. If not bit within 3-4 minutes, line loaded up with grass. Not that I was getting any bites, nary a nibble. After an hour decided to head up to ...

Re: South Mission 7/6

Nice job with the corbina catches, report, and inspiration!

I don't usually quote my posts. Who does?
However, I meant the inspiration part. I did. Thank you!
Went out and caught my first bean yesterday after reading this thread and thinking I had it decoded.
Luck was part, of course. I got it ...

Re: Mission Beach 7/6

Probably. I usually cast out a bit, I never fish super close to the sand. Are there fish that close, say 10-25 feet out?

Yep… I’ve caught the majority of my corbina within that 10’ range… And the same with perch and SFC… YFC might be a little farther out…

Re: North County trips.

Went out this morning. Fished from 6:30 to 7:15. Caught 2 perch on crabs. Tried to throw an LC, seaweed almost every cast.
After 45 minutes, just got a cup of coffee and relaxed on the beach.

Re: South Mission 7/13

Good to meet you as well Joe, enjoyed sharing some sand with you this morning. Glad for you to get that nice corbina. They're a nice mild tasting, firm but not fishy. Hope you and your family enjoy it. I'm sure we'll run into each other again.

So. Mission 7/13

Little late this AM getting to the party but the fishies waited. As JWacky noted, started off slow, and real slow for me at least, not a bite for almost an hour. Perch bite kicked in around 8:15 and then this guy hit 2 soft shells piggy backed around 9 am. Nice to see JWacky get his first bean and a ...

Pacific Beach Tuesday July 15

I fished the surf south of Crystal Pier this morning about 9-10:15 on incoming tide. The pier is open and plenty of lines were in the water. Water is noticeably warmer than Friday when I was out surfing, but still not over 70. Huge beds of surf crabs everywhere, but you’d be wise to be picky and ...

Re: First surf fishing question

Thanks for the help guys! I had a great day! Got to Carlsbad around 2:00pm. Ended up with 11 surf perch, 3 YFC, and a baby sand bass. Couldn’t have even asked for that much luck

I was at south Carlsbad yesterday in the morning. Only small areas of sand among the rocks, but the perch were biting.

Pacific Beach 7/20

A variety this morning; started off at 05:30 with a dinner plate size ray followed by a small leo. Perch bite was slow at first but turned on around 6. Got 10 overall plus a mid size corbina, about 14", over next 1.5 hours, mostly on sand crabs but a few on some left over ghost shrimp. Perch mostly ...

Congrats Joe on getting that spot fin. They're fun to catch and a good tussle just like corbina. Well done.

Re: Mission Beach 7/21

Been there, done that Joe. First you have to get lucky to find parking & the SMB lot gives you the best chance. I've had fairly good luck with swimmers, boarders & day trippers being respectful when I find an open area. What I've noticed is a lot of these folks/tourists leave about 4-5 pm. Then the ...

Del Mar afternoon 07/26

Fished Del Mar for a few hours late afternoon. Crowds weren’t too bad. Water was dirty but not too much salad to snag on. Started off with landing two small YFC right away. Nothing for the next hour or so until this Corvina took a liking to the Gulp Sandworms of all things. Fought much harder and ...

Quality Over Quantity - Mid Summer Surf Report

Sight-fishing between Blacks and Del Mar has been "excellent" this season, except for the whole catching part. This year is the first time I've seen spotfin tailing in the surf, but almost like a first-cast-curse, I've only been able to catch the first one I spotted (pun intended) in late May, using ...
