Re: Padres/Pitch Clock/Affecting batters?

Seems like the pitch clock is affecting pitchers who may not have been in the greatest shape. David Wells and Bartolo Colon could not survive in this day in age. I almost drafted Alek Manoah early this year for my fantasy team, and I thought he was going to have a down year because of the clock ...

Re: Padres/Pitch Clock/Affecting batters?

So what's going on with Bally Sports and the TV contract?

Apparently the Padres were getting 60 million from Bally Sports to televise their games. But, the money's all gone as Bally Sports has gone under, and even though MLB is helping the Padres with additional funding for this year, that Welfare ...

Poaching

What has been the most egregious example of poaching that you have seen that you just had to call Cal Tip?

I saw a good one today.

I showed up to the local pond today, and saw a guy doing the following:

1. Using TWO hoop nets. He was baiting the nets with cut up bluegill.

2. Using a throw net as ...

Hard not to slap some sense into them myself! But assault is never worth the lesson 😂

I'm not even worried about the assault charge.

Nowadays, you never know who's strapped.

Re: Used torn soft plastics

I used to use a lighter as a kid. Wonder how many yummy fumes I inhaled.

Glad to see they designed something a lot better.

I see people just using crazy glue, in a gel format. What's the difference between Mend It and Super Glue?

Re: Poaching

If you want a first hand experience of violation after violation, just take a stroll down any public pier.

Do you think the amount of violations occurring are directly proportionate to the fact that fishing public piers do not require a fishing license?

Would requiring a valid CA fishing ...

Re: Soft Plastics Colors and Combos

I like the saying, K.I.S.S.

I usually have 3 tones and carry primary colors based on those.

Dark - Green Pumpkin
Baitfish - Natural Shad
Light - Morning Dawn

I'll carry a few profiles as well:

1. Stick
2. Straight Worm
3. Curly Tail
4. Baitfish

And fish them using a few methods:

1. Dropshot
2 ...

Stuff You Hear at City Park Ponds

I'll start.

1. "Are you fishing?"

2. "Are there actually fish in there?"

3. "Do you eat them?" "Why don't you eat them?"

4. "Can I have it then since you're throwing them back?"

5. "Did you catch that?! (While pointing at my swimbait)

Re: SD River & more

Finesse jigs are fun to fish, because they get a lot more bites. I use them at our small city ponds and have had some pretty nice fish inhale it, but the 1 pounders have no problems smacking them.

Problem is, it seems the only ones you can find readily available are the Keitech series of finesse ...

Re: SD River & more

I have been buying tungsten ball head jig heads from amazon . Its a harmony product and I can get just about any small size I would need and get them 5 for about 11 bucks. I buy in bulk skirts .

That's smart! I perused Amazon and found that the smallest size they make is a 1/4 ounce.

The ...

Re: Stuff Your Hear at City Park Ponds

I got another one:

Whenever you land a fish, someone always says, "Looks like you've got dinner!"

The other day, I saw some dude making a video for his YouTube Channel, you know, the one where everyone always say, "Like and Subscribe!"

I'm seeing more and more of that.

Jeff, show him the ...

Scott, this is actually a much more accurate description of the Barrett crowd.

Re: Padres/Pitch Clock/Affecting batters?

And what the heck is up with the oven mitts? Guys are wearing mitts bigger than a hockey goalie wears on his stick hand.

I think it's threefold

1. Major League Baseball rules don't disallow it.
2. It protects your hand from inadvertent injury. (Getting stepped on with metal cleats isn't fun ...

Re: Stuff You Hear at City Park Ponds

How about when a huge carp boils?

"OMG DID YOU SEE THAT HUGE BASS!?" and then they proceed to run over there to cast their bait at the dissipating ripples.

Re: Tip of the day

My tips from last week's outing.

1. If your chatterbait doesn't have an immediate wobble on the first wind, you bought yourself a crap chatterbait.

2. When stripers are boiling, try throwing something underneath them. That's where the largies and smallies like to hang out and let the stripers do ...

Even largemouth bass have rough surfaces that will abrade line: https://tacklevillage.com/do-bass-have-teeth/

Re: Tip of the day

I freeze all my water bottles and they serve as ice for other items I may have in my cooler. I take one out and have it in the open, and have it gradually melt.
