Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…

Back in the day, black and blue lizards use to be a go to for me down there. It’s funny how over time you shift from fishing certain baits. I think I’m going to have to bust them out. I think the reason I stopped was the brush hawg came out. The lizard was the original creature bait for me.

I ...

Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…

Ain’t no bass man alive that will settle for just 3 baits… Or rods….Or reels… Or maybe even boats.. You guys are worse than fly guys.

I think it was one of those 'hypothetical questions."

Kinda like if people ask you if you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life.

You can argue that ...

Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…

I get it… Just being a smart a$$ and poking fun at bass guys and their gear… All is good though ,as we all like our gear…
Butch

Oh, we all do that.

I have a buddy who brings 5 bags, and ends up throwing 2 baits all day.

You're not a bass fisherman if you don't.

:D

I go to my local pond ...

Re: Barrett Report May 26

I'm not really sure if I like having panoptix, I don't use it much, and when I do, it's not the favorite to see fish moving away from your lure.

I think that's the most helpful aspect of forward facing sonar.

We went through stages on FFS learning. The first few weeks, we'd giggle like ...

Re: Late yet epic!

Hey, way to make the best of it! The first time I got the change to fish Barrett, before the age of Mapquest, I got lost and went past the 9 am cut off when they close the gate. I finally managed to get in around 2 pm when the first train was leaving, after begging the gate keeper to let me in. When ...

Re: How do ya'll do it? (Camp/sleep strategies)

We used to leave LA at around 12 or so. We'd stop at the Denny's near SDSU (which at 2ish am is a frickin human circus!) and get a bite. We'd be in line by 3:30, and usually had 10 to 20 or so vehicles in front of us, which was manageable.

Now? We leave around 9, get to Denny's around 11:30 (which ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

For me, the most difficult part of fishing Barrett (at times) is eliminating water, as every inch of this place looks fishy. Eliminating water and finding a pattern is the first things we focus on when our lines hit the water. Unless the fish are busting, we try to use two different baits (usually ...

Re: 6/6- Return to SD River

I followed the SD River on Google Earth to its path to El Cap.

How did you guys find your spots? Trial and error or did you get some guidance? It seems like any pooled up section could hold bass.

Good job!

Re: How many have found a lure and fished it???

The lures I've found I can count on one hand. Apparently I do the donating, and not the finding. Although one time I had a crackhead try to sell me a Kastmaster for 10 bucks. He tried to claim it was silver. After I said no, he just gave it to me and skittered off.

The coolest thing I've found was ...

Re: How many have found a lure and fished it???

....I have a couple lost lure stories...

Back when I still could throw big baits all day without needing arthroscopic surgery, I was at DVL chucking a 8" Triple Trout. We went to the back of a cove near the west dam and I flung it deep in there, and backlashed quite nicely. I sat there for 10 ...

Re: True Story

Synchronicity is a pretty interesting phenomena.

As I get older, rest starts becoming recovery. In my youth, there was no such thing as rest. The fish weren't going to catch themselves.

Early release wrote: Sun Jun 23, 2024 3:48 pmWhat I didn't like about the imitators is that the blade portion didn't start spinning as soon as you moved it.
It's kinda like chatterbaits. I see the cheap ones take a while for the blade to start vibrating. It's no wonder why the Jackhammer is the standard.

Re: Vail Lake

It's closed to fishing again. Been like that for about a year. They are using the excuse that the rain brought the lake level up to where areas of the shoreline are 'unsafe.'

Re: Baseball Season

Seems like it's the same story for us Dodger fans for the past decade. Get to the playoffs, lose.

Also, I don't subscribe to the We Won the World Series in 2020.

That wasn't even a season. It trips me out that all these people have their "World Series Champs 2020" shirts and license plate holders ...

Re: Baseball Season

That’s why they lost to the giants “Mickey Mouse” hat day 🤣 You know, that one Mickey Mouse championship they won?!

I think even management caught some slack when they alluded to the fact that it wasn't a real World Series win.

I'm glad that our management has some pride and realize that 2020 ...

Re: Filamentous Algae

Our local pond used to get treated with a blue dye that limits the amount of vegetation growth during the summer months. But, because of budget issues, it has been left to fend for itself, and this lake is now full of this snot.

A few days ago, as I'm walking around it, I see a peculiar sight ...

Re: Hot June Water Drop 7-7-24

A few years ago I drove down the hill at open with only a few cars in front of me and a guy parked so bad he had already nearly blocked anyone else from parking. By the time I left the lake at 7pm, someone had ripped his back bumper clean off. Justice.

Yikes!

About 10 years ago, I had the ...

Re: First time at Barrett Lake help.

1. As others have stated, you can get there at 7 and have a boat available, as they don't overbook spots like airlines do. But, getting there as early as you can will give you time to get prepared, and wipe the eye boogers off. Plus, during this time of year, it can get brutally hot so giving ...

Curious to know if there is any way to tell what the rangers look like when they are out searchin for evil doers that dont have barbless hooks:? What are the signs? Attire? Boat? Goofy looking? No tackle in boat? :?:
