Re: Favorite lure of 2024
This is a 5 inch ZMan Streakz. Along with a Gamakatzu light wire 4/0 Hook, skip casted way back under cover on 30 Braid. It floats. Of the 11 Bass I caught between 7-9 pounds this year , I landed 9 on this.

Re: Help, mullet advice needed!
The answer to your problem is a flight to New Orleans and a rental car drive to Venice. There, the Mullet are voracious and eat anything thrown onto the water. Put them in a bucket and bring them back so we can have that here…

Re: Surf fishing waders — what do y'all use?
Never used Waders in the Surf here. I was raised by a Surf Fisherman. My Pops believed if you got washed out in those things, you drown. To each their own…I save my Simms Waders for the Sierras and Float Tubing. They cost a few bucks but have 20 years of use and look and work fine. My buddies that ...

Re: Mission Bay - stingray blues
I have seen Juvenile White Sharks feeding on Stingrays in Bolsa Chica. This happened last Spring and after calling people over, a large crowd developed. It was a full on Nat Geo moment.

Re: Morning or afternoon?
I go by the Tide. Some spots are good at low Tide, some high Tide, some while the water is moving between the two.

Re: Not totally fishing related
Lake Perris has World Class Rock Climbing at Bernisconi Beach on the South side of the lake. Parking nearby, just have cash for the Iron Ranger, ones, fives, and a ten will cover the fee with exact change. From beginner to expert with experts usually around to learn from.

Re: Soft Plastics
I also use Z-man plastics. To make your bodies last longer, whatever you use, pinch the barb down on your Jighead. These Bass have bony mouths and digging you lure back out of the Bass causes the most damage. I add a drop of Gel style superglue to hold the body onto the Jighead securely. Doing this ...

A little North - Newport Bay
I have been teaching some Bass Fishing 101 to a local neighborhood kid. He truely loves to fish! We started out fishing our local park lake and within a couple of weeks he was nailing Bass on his own. We practice knots, I show him how to work baits and basic rigging. Yesterday we went on his first ...

Re: Cabo Redemption?
I’m bewildered. Ii have seen posts from you, you seem to be able to catch fish around the San Diego area.. You skunked, surf fishing in Cabo? I mean I have had 50 Roosterfish at my feet in the Surf just South of the Harbor. One time I got 6 Pacific Black Snook before Breakfast.i dragged them into ...

Newport Harbor
I been hitting the Harbor hard this year as Puddingstone was tough early in the season and been closed to fishing for many weeks. Those who fish the Harbor know the bite centers on the Tides. The more moving water the better although not necessarily the biggest tide of the day. I try to hit good ...

Re: Newport Harbor
Orange County seems to be very anti-fishing. In the last few years they took Float Tubing and Kayaking completely away from us in the freshwater lakes. We have plenty of water. Siphon, Rattlesnake, Oso, Laguna, Irvine, Peters Canyon, Santa Ana River Lakes. No Tubes or Kayaks. Now, vandals broke into ...

Re: 6/23- SD River(Almost "Deja vu")
You mentioned that the amount of Bass you catch doesn’t correlate with the number of times you fish. My Dad told me the best thing about fishing is practice practice practice. How many perfect casts result in catching a Bass. Not every one, but a lot. I watch my buddies not casting to areas I ...

Re: Newport Harbor
It’s my “Back Yard”. You ever want to go, I’ve got an extra Hobie Float Tube. So much less walking! We launch at half tide, let the current float us along the docks, take 5 at the peak, let the current wash us back to the get out spot. Then we eat because there is no better food than after Tubing ...

Re: Pacific Beach 6/24
Just a quick thought. I don’t know what the conditions were. Generally a lot of weeds come with swell. If it was after the swell and relatively calm, you can throw a Sand Crab under a Bobber. Now before you start laughing, the Bobber floats with the weeds and you give it the best drift you can. We ...

Re: Newport Harbor
Ya Butch, you sit in a comfortable seat, out of the water, and cast to the most awesome spots, where you just know you re going to get bit. We don’t wear waders in the Summer, just a pair of old shoes and some strap on fins. Catch some fish, and leave when you are done. Don’t get me wrong, launching ...

Re: 6/26-Murray
If it isn’t Hardwood, it will just wilt and decay on the bottom. However, Hardwood will last a decade. In Louisiana, they pound sharpened PVC pipe into the lake bottom in a grid pattern. All point up, within a few weeks, algae covers the pipes turning them green, and Bluegill and Shad feed on the ...

Re: Rocks, trees, and Vinnybass....
I spent a lot of time underwater at Lake Perris in the Glenn Lau Era. He produced a film called Bigmouth in 1973 that spurred me to become a Scuba and later Freediver. I was making Money diving for Keys and hooking up sunken Car/Trucks at the Launch ramp (it happens more than you would think)and ...
