6/23- SD River(Almost "Deja vu")

Returned to the SD River this morning after landing 2 bass on 3 bites 3 days ago. It was almost "Deja vu" only this time I got 4 bites and landed 3 bass. Started by catching a tiny bass like last time, then landed one slightly bigger and then one slightly bigger than the last one. None were what ...

6/26-Murray

Spent a lot of time throwing onto bass swirling around the surface feeding almost exclusively on small shad. Still exciting but then you start seeing that 90% of them are very small 8-12" bass. Every once in a while maybe a 2lb bass would jump but even then that was rare, but that is what keeps you ...

Re: 7/8 Miramar DD

Meant to include that all were caught on soft plastics. Tried maybe 10 other lures (jerk bait, Sammy, jack hammer, whopper plopper, mini-jig to name a few) with no bites other than on a small paddle tail SB tossed into a group of busting fish but it came unbuttoned.

Froggin and jiggin Otay 7/23

Ended the morning with 9 fish total. All on jigs along drop offs, and frogs across the top of floating vegetation mats (of which there are plenty). I put a new seat in my float tube and man is it nice! Ergonomic and no more sliding down in the seat. Should have done it years ago.

Re: Bass fishing Lake Cuyamaca

In years of high water, the south end has been very good to me. I caught my largest personal best at Cuyamaca, but it was way back at the end of June in 2009. I caught a 12 lb bass on a Senko just as a thunderstorm began. It was possible back in those days, to catch numbers and quality, but you had ...

New lake in the OC (for me...)

So, since someone killed all the fish in my old favorite spot, I had to find a new one...so I tried Irvine lake. Only had a couple hours, and only got 2 bites, but it was worth the trip! Got there right at 7 when they say it opens and there were lots of people there already...next time i may go a ...

Re: 8/4-Mixing it up at Murray

I just glad you went fishing and nailed them on my Birthday. I did my 64 mile Birthday ride, it gets tougher every year. 1 pic from the halfway spot. I surf fished today with a large South Swell for two Corbina and a Yellowfin Croaker and 90 pounds of weeds. Weeds pull hard in a big swell. Lots of ...

8/8-SD River again from shore

Knowing it was going to get very hot quickly,I wanted to get there early, but got delayed sorting though all types of tackle at the last second to bring so did not arrive at he river till 10 minutes to 7. The sun was already out as last time it was over cast for at least an hour. Tossed some ...

9/3 Just Dinks/Murray

Went to Murray as it got hot very quick(the weather I mean). I messed around with breaking bass that almost all of them were pretty small. Same story as they are feeding on shad and that is what they want. I tried baits that in the past were a sure thing which gets me pretty frustrated when they don ...

I dropped a setup in the lake last Friday and got it back! Definitely worth the try!

Re: Back2back sweetwater

That looks like the {BASS} they were fairly plentiful at Otay back in the 80s. That’s what a {BASS} should look like.

I think the 80s were the prime years to get a double digit! San V, Hodges, and Otay all had 10+ fish that were there for the taking! If you didn't get a 10 back then, you ...

SD River Recent Reality

I must admit I was pretty blessed just the last few months at the SD River. Besides some clones, I have picked up a number of 4's, a 5.50lb, a 6.25lb and one bass just a few ounces under 7lbs. Lately, reality has set in and it has been tougher as I have picked up mostly small bass and a few other ...

Re: Braid and Leader Line

10lb Braid to 12lb Fluoro is what we use 90% of the time. Really not a ton of benefit to fishing lighter then 12lb unless the water is clear or your targeting a more line shy species like Bonefish. Spotties eat 12lb just fine and you'll be glad you have it if you hook something bigger

Re: Braid and Leader Line

Just my two cents... Maxima "Ultragreen." (my fav) No leader necessary unless targeting toothy critters.
