Thanks guys

Post by Learning to fish »

After fishing all summer at Murray trying to learn to fish for bass and only catching one dink, I was about to give up. I had come to see it a a lost cause. Then I ran across this site and saw that some of you were not only catching some, but catching some really big ones. I decided that I needed to get off of the shore to get to the fish. I purchased a cheap used kayak and after getting blown around on some windy days. I decided to put a motor on it and now can get around pretty good. Still not catching fish, but thanks to you all, I know it’s possible. So I’m sticking to it. I started a YouTube channel this year and decided to ad a fishing playlist to it and finally posted to it. In my first video last week, I told the above story, expressing my sincere gratitude for sdfish and gave a big shout out. Again, thank you for continually showing me that it’s possible. When I was on the water today I decided I should share this with you.

Murray can be tuff, especially if you don't know the lake. Fish and wild life say it has the least amount of fish in it. El Cap is a good lake to learn on, from shore or on the water.

I did not have any mentors, but thank God for the internet. I printed out two notebooks full of 'how to's'. It's really 'time on the water' that is the most important aspect of learning.

I go out on Wednesdays, if you'd like to backseat I could give you a few pointers, not that I'm half as good as many other guys here.

That would be awesome otay Michael. I have the next 2 Wednesdays taken up with dental appointments, but if the offer holds after that I would love it.

If anyone here is buying Otay Michael’s “half as good” line, I have some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you. He’s a legend in these here parts 😉

Exactly!!!! Michael is a hell of a good fisherman.
There’s no body of water where he can’t catch fish on top water year-round, which is pretty amazing to me besides him normally catching tons of bass year around.

I think you made a wise choice. Fishing is like a slot machine and every cast is a pull of the handle. When you hook a fish that's the jackpot spin. They are not all jackpots. You will develop your own style that give you more success with time. Keep at it....

Thanks killintime. I went out to the SD bay and caught this on Sunday. It was pretty choppy but had fun. Going to go to El Cap on Thursday to check it out as suggested. Not bass, but something

OtayMichael taught me. Fishing with him will make you think he has put a special hex on your bait!

Oh wow thanks fishin. Saved me a trip and a lost morning on the water. After showing up at Murray on the second Tuesday more times than I want to admit to, I should have thought to check.

When you're at the lake and see someone catch a fish, ask them what they're using, how deep was the fish, how did they work the bait.....ask lots of questions! That's how most the better fisherman on this site learned alot of what they know...that and time on the water! If someone doesn't want to share any info with you....screw em!

Tell Vinnybass that.
I ask a lot of questions, I recall when I first started fishing seriously I was at Hodges back in the late 70’s a guy close to me was fishing on shore and he hooked up with a nice bass and I ran over asked all those questions and he turned to me and said… Don’t Fu-k with me now.
My buddy and I still laugh at it to this day.

???
When you asked me questions Vito, I do give you an answer. I share all types of information on this site to people on what I was using and even show a lot of times the bait in pics I post. Many people have told me I share too much information and even when I’m fishing, I’m always trying to be helpful if other fishermen ask any questions.
