Otay news concerning closing again.
Concession closed. Used Iron ranger. Had a nice half day on the water today. Nice warm sunny Afternoon. Semi windless. Water 65. Fish on beds. Got some real nice top water action going. While leaving one of the Lake staff said that the lake may close on Saturday due to an algae bloom according to a biologist.

Where are those quagga mussels when we need them? I thought they were supposed to suck up all the nutrients and algae.
Mussels are about as lazy as a creature can get.

Closed....opened....closed again.
Why did they even open it back up in the first place if the bloom is so bad it requires another closing?

What risk does an algae bloom pose that requires shutting down a lake?

Little Timmy goes a'swimmin' off the dock and then dies after suckin' down some water, someone is going to be held liable.

Re: Otay news concerning closing again.
On our way back from our Sierras trip last September, we stopped at Diaz Lake outside of Lone Pine since we slayed largies there the year before. Greeted by signs everywhere, toxic algae bloom. Do not touch the water, do not smell the water, do not even look at the water, pretend the water isn't there, (exaggerations by me obviously). Pretty sad and disconcerting.

Quaggas (and soon to be golden mussels) actually make cyanobacterial (blue-green algae) blooms worse.Gotfish? wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 5:53 am Where are those quagga mussels when we need them? I thought they were supposed to suck up all the nutrients and algae.

Amazing, they somehow can spit out blue-green algae. No redeeming value whatsoever.Queue wrote: Fri Feb 28, 2025 11:10 amQuaggas (and soon to be golden mussels) actually make cyanobacterial (blue-green algae) blooms worse.Gotfish? wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 5:53 am Where are those quagga mussels when we need them? We need some sort of fish to eat the quaggas. In the northeast, gobies eat a lot of the zebra and quagga mussels but biologists get upset about introducing any species. Red ear sunfish eat quaggas, I don't know if those are at Otay or not, doesn't appear so. Maybe the lake should be stocked with some red ears.

I drove by the lake today and it's open with boats, kayaks and float tubes on the water
