Great to see this site

Sdfish.com had a lot of great content and contributors but got toxic at the end. Good to see this site and hope it stays positive.

Re: What happened to the old SDFish?

The old owner (Kellen) could have easily just deleted the Lounge and left everything else intact. Myself and others have tried contacting him by email and phone with no success. His contact information is on various sites. [removed] [removed] Kellen should be 40 years old now: [removed] My guesses: ...

Re: Float tube essentials....

I use an old beef jerky zip lock bag, the hooks don't snag in that type plastic and it takes up less room than a tub. Either way, critical for saltwater fishing.

Assuming the deal is legal. Might be a bad idea otherwise.

April 8, 2023 Tidelands

I will kick of this forum with the 1st post. I had been fishing South San Diego Bay for the last few month, had the quantity but not the quality of spotties. Got 29 spotties, 1 mackerel, 1 corvina and 1 halibut (18") float tubing yesterday. The spotties were nice sized for a change, several in ...

Re: What happened to the old SDFish?

This is cool. Lounge topic morphs into a fishing discussion. That wouldn't have happened on the old sdfish, maybe the opposite instead.

Re: Barrett water level

Fish are going to be spread out all over the place. Next year should be fantastic though as the fish population catches up with the expanded area. Still looking forward to fishing it, even if it means working harder than usual.

Re: Study- masks causing major harm...

I guess there are countless number of doctors and surgeons that have been wearing masks for decades and decades and not sure all of them have destructive health issues....but what do I know, I am just a bass fisherman...ha ha Glad you are not saying guys who throw lots of topwater baits year round ...

Re: Study- masks causing major harm...

Regarding testicular malfunction mentioned in the study, I always remove my mask before sex (FYI, hardly ever wear it anymore except when posting in the old sdfish Lounge). I would be concerned if my wife asked me to keep it on though. On the kinky side, there are probably some people who do wear ma...

Re: Barrett water level

I spoke to the a City Engineer on Friday...........he said "Barrett will spill in the next couple of weeks". They will not drain it as Otay is 100%. FGF.........D TommyP I might want to stay away from the dam in my float tube if the water will be flowing over it. Could be in for a wild ri...

Re: FISHERIES INVENTORY AND UTILIZATION OF SAN DIEGO BAY, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA FOR SURVEYS CONDUCTED IN APRIL AND JULY

Haven't caught a lizardfish in the bay in years, the bay used to be infested with them. Same with needlefish. Next to nothing in the counts too.

Gray day on the bay

Fished Tidelands this morning from the float tube. Got 31 spotted bay bass, 1 20" halibut and 1 sand bass. At least 1/3 of the spotties were in the 13-15" range. Best lures were a Missile Shockwave swimbait on a weedless standup jig head, a 5" grub on a 3/8 oz. ball head and a 4"...

Re: Bay reel recommendations

The Daiwa TWS (t-wing system) reels are awesome baitcasting reels, cast really far and very easy to cast without backlashes. I have only had mine for a few months but have other Daiwa reels that are over 40 years old. There are several different models, I have the smallest. I know others with the sa...

Re: Werfless

Lol.. not too active here, though I try to keep up a little. Don't feel as welcome here. I carry much more presence elsewhere as I don't feel so welcome. All good though, it's what the current people in charge want, so no big deal. No idea what I can and can't post here, I am an admin over on FishH...

Re: Study- masks causing major harm...

Among medical doctors, surgeons have the 2nd longest lifespan of identified specialties despite wearing those annoying masks: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/lim2.23 What if mask wearing is really the fountain of youth but no wants to admit it because everyone hates them? Imagine ho...

Re: Downtown cheetah bass

I didn't get any in the shallow water close to shore this morning unlike the last few weekends. I think they are moving to deeper water and then to the mouth of the bay to spawn in June. Have seen that pattern before.

Re: How much of a workout is float tubing?

I mostly fish the bay and let the tide take me out and back. Tubing is not that hard unless you are trying to kick against the tide or wind. If you stay inside the marina, it will be very easy. You should probably stick with inside the marina for the 1st few trips until you are comfortable with the ...

Tip of the day

I thought I would start this, others should chime in for our collective expertise. I will add things often. 1st tip of the day: if you find knots in superlines (Nanofil, Gliss, extra smooth casting braid) slip prematurely using your regular knots, then there are several possible fixes: 1. Put the li...
