Barrett Rangers
Curious to know if there is any way to tell what the rangers look like when they are out searchin for evil doers that dont have barbless hooks:? What are the signs? Attire? Boat? Goofy looking? No tackle in boat?

Re: Barrett Rangers
Last time, they were wearing civilian clothing. I think one dude was even wearing a Padres hat. I told him before they even reached us that we don't talk to Padres fans.Brian D wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2024 10:43 am Curious to know if there is any way to tell what the rangers look like when they are out searchin for evil doers that dont have barbless hooks:? Re: Barrett Rangers
Why worry? Just crimp em down. Will save a fish on a gut hook and you on a skin poke. And as DarkShadow said, they are sneaky lil devils.

Re: Barrett Rangers
You’ll know when you see a boat coming straight at yours like “hey, are these guys going to ram us?” or it looks like some guys are planning to move right into OUR spot! Then one of them may shout out “go ahead and put your rod down” (as that’s the one the DFG will want to see if that’s got the barbless hooks on it). Nothing to be frighten of if you know you’re totally legit. They’ll ask to look at your valid fishing license.

The Willie Sutton Rule is based on a statement by notorious American bank robber Willie Sutton, who, when asked by a reporter about why he stole from banks, answered: “Because that's where the money is.”

Haha, how about not robbing a bank?
Just crimp your barbs, have a license, and don't have fish in your bucket.
Pretty simple. Then u don't have to worry about what the rangers look like, eh? Ridiculous.
They all have been more than friendly.

They are usually launching from Pigs with a Kayak with 3 drop shot set ups and 5 rigs tied with Whopper Ploppers in every color. Seem friendly, little kooky but vicious when it comes to the un-un-barbed hooligans. Its life or death out there be cool.Brian D wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2024 10:43 am Curious to know if there is any way to tell what the rangers look like when they are out searchin for evil doers that dont have barbless hooks:? Re: Barrett Rangers
Last time I saw them, they were in Hawaiian shirts, floppy hats and rods from a 1970 garage sale with no line strung through the guides running around in a rental boat

Re: Barrett Rangers
In my opinion fishing without barbs is actually great i personally hate to hurt fish and when a fish gets a hook in the eye or gut its sooooo much easier to take out not to mention that when you do get poked its comes out easy too. Keep this mind... the more rules you break the more risk it is for barrett to shut down same thing with people arguing which always leads to violence last time i hear a couple people arguing over a fishing spot like WTF... lmao the whole lake was wide open

Re: Barrett Rangers
Now, perhaps people may agree to disagree, but personally, sending TWO wardens to check on people fishing at Barrett is not very productive. I don't think individuals who paid over $100 to fish Barrett are the type to be breaking rules. It's like rolling up to an Amish community checking for modified exhausts on their buggies.
Meanwhile, in city ponds, you have gill netters, and cast net throwers, people taking over limits, fishing without a license, throwing 12 rods, snagging fish with treble hooks, using live bluegill, (i miss anything?) but wardens will never step foot there.
Never understood that mentality. Don't you place Law Enforcement in areas where the most crime is occurring?
Of the 10 times I've been checked for my license in the 35 years I've been fishing, 7 have been at Barrett. I fish my local pond almost every day during the week, and in the 3 years I've been fishing there, I've seen a warden once. It's gotten to the point where when we see poaching, we just shrug and don't even bother calling the Cal Tip number anymore.

Re: Barrett Rangers
The wardens hand out a bunch of tickets every trip to Barrett. Majority of people at Barrett don't fish barbless hooks and lots of people don't have licenses, often because they don't even know they need one.

Re: Barrett Rangers
How did you come across this data? If we use the simple figure of 51% to define 'majority,' you're saying that half the people that fish Barrett are violating regulations?MistrRocko wrote: Sun Jul 21, 2024 11:42 amMajority of people at Barrett don't fish barbless hooks and lots of people don't have licenses, often because they don't even know they need one.

They look like game wardens with binoculars and fishing poles as props. You will realize they are not other fishermen when they are blasting over from a mile out at 45 miles an hour in a non rental jon bot. Hope this helps… my advice. Just crimp everything it doesnt really affect the fish getting off one way or another
Re: Barrett Rangers
Exactly our experience this year to the T. Fu#*kers moving into our spot I thought. Usually there's 2 guys, but this time it was 3 DFG guys. But all good. They did mentioned writing tickets to others checked that day for barb and licenses when I asked them. Cool guys.falafeluver wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2024 5:44 pm You’ll know when you see a boat coming straight at yours like “hey, are these guys going to ram us?” or it looks like some guys are planning to move right into OUR spot! Re: Barrett Rangers
Just pinch your barbs man! It's not like you're fishing a tournament and having a pinched barb is gonna cost you anything and it's barrett, you're gonna hook more than one fish almost any day. It makes it more fun for me. If I land the fish, I win, if it gets off, it wins.
