Re: Fat Bluegill, San Vicente ... again? May 21

Thank you for the bluegill tips. I had no idea you were catching them where and how you described; good work!

I'll predict in five more years almost everyone will have forward sonar and our lakes will probably be crowded throughout fall, winter, and spring when people realize what's actually ...

That's a beauty!

Opposite side of Bali Hai when they had that smaller bait barge used to be a hot spot for croaker and corvina ...

Re: Big Bay Sunday 2-2 Spotties MIA

Hey John, just seeing this post. We were out there the same day! Interesting experience for us as well -- the spotties were oddly few and far between. We had some variety though -- caught quite a few smelt, a small flounder, a large ray, a few small halibut, and this one -- just an inch under a ...

Classic 1967 Salton Sea Video

I've never had the opportunity to fish it. I always heard how great it once was. I think this is the best video I've seen of that period.

Re: Barrett Lake record

All you can eat cod. Best you could find anywhere. That place was there since the 30’s or 40’s. My dad said it used to be the place to be in the 50’s. They had live music and dancing. I used to try and make it there once a month until they closed. It’s a shame they made it all that time and then ...

Re: First time at Barrett Lake help.

We had an amazing first time. This place was pretty unbelievable. It may have ruined fishing for us anywhere else. My son described it like a video game of catching.

Everyone was so super friendly and helpful. Without the advice and generosity of everyone I don’t think we would we would have had ...

Sun July 28th

Second trip to Barrett. First trip two weeks ago. Totally unprepared and didn’t have a clue. Barely eked out 5.

This trip…I found this board. Talked to some frequently flyers at the dock and at the kayak launch. I just want to say thank you to everyone. You guys are so generous with your ...

Reaper boy strikes again (report for 7/28)

We got a full 14 hour day in on Sunday. A great day with 46 between us (you know, the same number that some of you catch individually when you haul your fancy kayaks out of the water by 11am). :o

Theo caught the biggest fish of the day before we left the dock at 5:30am. No scale, but this one was ...

8/24 experience

So me and the son went out on saturday hoping for a great TW bite in hauser, 1st trip of 2024.

TW really didnt materialize as hoped, when it did, it consisted mainly of dinks.

I saw a guy throwing an a-rig that got bit a lot, but what i saw were mostly dinks.

When tw wasnt on, we got them ...

Barrett Report August 28

Got out a little later yesterday. Chuck and Steve were already out there. Water temp dropped a bit, started the day around 75F at the surface, air was a touch chilly, maybe low 50s F. Slight wind from mostly east. Went over to Becky's cove and pounded the shoreline with topwater to minimal response ...

Re: Barrett Report August 28

The cooler air temperature had something to do with the slower top water bites. Did get 4 on frog early, ended up with 25 healthy bass, crawler and popper worked well with a pause

Re: Barrett Report August 28

Thanks for the report Dave. I got out there late afternoon, and while it was beautiful and the wind died down, the bite was really slow for me. I caught six on reapers, senkos, Ikas. My buddy was doing much better with 2.5" slim swimz, even though we didn't notice much bait fish.

Re: Barrett Report August 28

Hey Shawn, sorry I missed you out there. It was nice to meet you all last week.

It does seem like the wind peaks around lunchtime and then it's better in the afternoon. I think you are correct about the baitfish. I see small numbers of 1-2" shad in the shallows, but failed to locate any major bait ...

Re: 8/24 & 8/25

YMMV, but one thing I know about Barrett is that Northerns are a schooling fish. I've NEVER fished an area and had to change bait 15 times and spend 30 minutes without getting bit, and then suddenly start getting fish.

If the fish are there, they''ll let you know.

I don't waste my time trying to ...

Re: Barrett Report August 28

I pride myself with having so many various lures from the decades of fishing all over my garage, house, boat and even in my kayak...but
I have never had a flying fish type of bait or a bait with wings. Oh wait...I got it.... I guess it is called a Pompadour. That bait is crazy looking and even ...
