Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

1. Don't use swivels direct to your baits. Clips are for hard baits that already had a split ring on them, swivels are for carolina rigs and that's about it when it comes to bass fishing.

2. Your gear matters a ton but that doesn't mean you need to spend a ton and it doesn't mean you can't catch ...

Under the Bridge 6/10

Usually have 50+ days on the bay a year but today was only my second time out in 2024. Had a friend in town who's a beginner and always wants to get on the water when he's around, especially since I started taking him to the bay instead of lakes.

Rented a boat at Seaforth in Coronado and headed ...

Re: Barrett Lake record

12lbs and change as far as I know. It wasn't caught on rod and reel or even while fishing so I don't know if you'd count it, but it was released safely.

No clue what the actual fishing record is. Have personally caught and weighed many 8lb and change fish. Never caught or witnessed a 9lb+ class ...

Re: Hot June Water Drop 7-7-24

I think i remember somone posting (on the old site) up a post saying not to write on there truck cause he was blocking the way

A few years ago I drove down the hill at open with only a few cars in front of me and a guy parked so bad he had already nearly blocked anyone else from parking. By the ...

Re: Weird day & a trophy bass (report for 7/7)

No way, I didn't realize you were float tube guy and father of Reaper Boy lol. I'm at Barrett quite a bit but never post reports, I'll introduce myself next time I see you. Your younger son is a crazy good fisherman, cool to see he caught a monster! Your lady saved one of my setups that blew into ...

Re: Weird day & a trophy bass (report for 7/7)

I just use a super cheap made in China scale (search eBay for fishing scale and sort by price, it's 5.99). Mine worked fine for 8ish years before giving me my first definitely wrong reading recently so I just bought another. Get a gripper to attach to the scale like Gotfish? suggested. You can get ...

Re: Barrett lake emergency kit

Don't bring any actual emergency kit stuff but stuff I bring and use for comfort/accidents:

1. 50% more water than I expect to drink.

2. I have 2 Simms Solarflex Guide Cooling Hoodies that I alternate and wash every couple trips that do a great job keeping me cool even on absolute scorcher days ...

Re: Barrett Rental Boats Setups

I throw my stuff in the same spot every time so I always know where everything is on the boat. Don't need anything fancy to organize it. I use the trolling motor in reverse 90%+ of the day and just treat the back of the boat like the front of the boat once the outboard's off. Already enough work to ...

WARNING for 8/18 Barrett early arrivals+short report

Was one of the last to depart this evening and encountered this road block. Cleared it the best I could to my left (so your right) on the edge of the road, but some was slightly sticking out still. It was very dead and fairly light, so a heavy wind could easily blow pieces back on the road. Exercise ...

Re: Because yes

Looking good, never seen them prepared this way. Bass not tasting good is one of the wildest myths in fishing, I prefer them to crappie.

Re: Barrett Report August 28

Jitterbug is the pond goat. Had so much fun on it in the late 90s-early 2000s. I feel like the new ones don't swim right and the hooks hang wrong

Re: Getting ready for 2025.

You know, I've nailed quite a few big gills in 2024 but maybe one of you guys would be willing to school me on some crappie fishing one of these days? I've caught a few, but I'd really like to get a better feel for how to target and fish for them. I've always wanted to learn but most of my fishing ...

Re: Speaking of Tidelands…

Looks like a fun day on the bay, love your videos.
I’ve been using Owner single hooks for awhile now and have put them on almost all my lures,, I don’t feel like it hinders hook ups in fact I think it increases my hookups because as you said you can slip them through grass and rock cover without ...

Re: Speaking of Tidelands…

Hey I wanted to ask out there about something mentioned multiple times in the comments of the video. They said I was using a bad type of net for the halibut that damages their tails. I looked it up and I guess there is something to that. Does anyone have a net recommendation for use for halibut ...

Re: Why post fake reports?

Goofy fish counts are nothing new at Barrett. Every day some kook will claim 2-300 at the dock for him and his buddies or even individually. That said, there are also talented guys who have put in a ton of time that put up big numbers. I keep my fish counts/tactics between me and my friends that I ...

Re: Why post fake reports?

That’s what happens when @VinnyBass posts a hot bite a Murray. Lake is loaded next day. He’s even enticed me to go see haha

I'm certain that I'm more likely to find DB Cooper or catch a marlin at Barrett than I am to catch a bass over 14" at Murray lol. I find it remarkably impressive that ...

Re: New Loveland Updates

Appreciate your ongoing efforts to force Sweetwater to do the right thing. Remarkable how hard it is to get people to do that. Don't think I've been there since 2022 but it's an awesome lake that everyone deserves to have the opportunity to enjoy for years to come. I'll never forget when Loveland ...

Re: Probably a dumb jig question.

I just drag jigs while keeping contact with the bait. Jigs are like rocks and I don't expect fish to hold them long so I want to know as soon as I'm bit.

If you're in a boat, you can usually get your jig back when you get stuck in rocks. You can often break vegetation with your line. You will lose ...
