Mission Beach Conditions

Post by Perch killer »

In case anyone has thought of hitting MB, you might want reconsider. Just got back from what was going to be a mid afternoon - early evening sesh. Red tide all the way from Jetty up to PB + heavy salad. Lifeguard said it started creeping in yesterday; today was real bad. Shame, water was so clear & blue just 3 days ago. :(

I’ve been noticing that for the last couple of days in PB the red tide has cleared with the outgoing tide, and comeback on the incoming tide… Same with the salad to some extent…. I’ve had at least some eel grass to contend with most days.. But fishable in the early AM… I agree that the red tide isn’t a great thing… Or he salad…

How's it been this week? Have a friend coming into town that wants to try surf fishing. Hoping to find some good conditions somewhere

Heard yesterday from a few folks that Carlsbad was real bad and Mission was "chocolate milk". Checked a few beach cams this afternoon - - Mission still looked chocolate, PB was worse . . dark green/brown. OB looked ok as did Coronado

Was at Seal Beach (NOC) last week and the water and smell would gag-a-maggot... Farther south was clear though...

That sucks, he was hoping to try out the surf. Will probably check it out to see how it looks just in case. Do the red tides typically kill the bite?
I guess we can always fish for spotties in bay. Just not as interesting as variety you can get in surf.

Went last night afterwork. water was still brown. Went to N jetty to check it out. Same on both sides, walked all the way to light house and brownness extended even out there. Ended up fishing the inlet side for a couple calicos and black croaker. Bites were far and few between, not many bait thieves out, not sure if that's red tide related.
