Visited seqouia and kings canyon for the first time this week. Went on lots of hikes and gave tenkara fishing a try. Now I'm hooked to fly fishing too! Not that I needed another reason to buy more gear... :?
Shout out to anyone who knows what kind of trout they are. I think they are Kern golden and ...

Re: First wild trout
Just an FYI…placing the fish on the ground (or in the snow) can be very damaging to their protective slime cost and potentially lead to disease and death in the near future. If you’re keeping them to eat, it’s no big deal, but if you’re hoping to successfully release them, it would be better for ...

Re: First wild trout
Sounded like you had a good time up there. Surprised there's still so much snow pack, but we were at about 200% this year from the rains.
you and me both. I was expecting to see some snow. But definitely did not expect to spend half the hike in it. At around 8000 ft elevation it was ...

HI cut bait fishing 7/11/23
went out before work to try my luck for a bit. Got a mack on first cast with jig. Cut it up and baited it on another rod. Got a personal PB guitar fish. Was a good morning workout to start the day. Got a few others but nothing else too exciting.

Re: TEMU, anyone?
2nd ali express. The vast majority of my purchases have been good. I primarily use it for simple stuff like hooks, jigs, swivels. There may be a dud or 2 in a pack, but I'm essentially getting 98 hooks for $2 shipped. Did also get a travel rod for $40 that held up well too. I'd imagine TEMU uses the ...

TP 7/23/23 AM session
lots of quality sand crabs today and water seemed plenty warm but not many bites. Got a couple guitar fish, a perch and a bean. There's so many rocks on beach lately, don't remember seeing that many in past years, not sure if that messes with bites.
Might try my hand at north tp next time, the ...

Re: Cuyamaca State Park Fishing
I can confirm there was trout in one of the areas mentioned last fall. I can also confirm that area was full of poison oak which is enough to keep me from really going for it as I'm highly allergic and have to be super careful.
good to note, I should probably study up my botany in case I run ...

Re: private charter recommendations?
Thanks for the info. I do remember Brothers being recommended quite a bit. Agreed there's so many charters out there that it's hard to know which ones are legit and which ones are just out to make a quick buck. I'll take a look at those options to see pricing and availability.

Re: Where are the corbina??
If you're seeing them, you're probably in the right spots. That being said, if you aren't landing anything, you need to change your presentation or move. I've been catching them pretty regularly this season, but not by sight fishing. I've never been good at spotting and catching them. I did catch a ...

Re: blacks mixed bag 7/20
yea, love how quiet it is out there. It's perfect because the surfers stay south in the MPA and everything north is open fishing grounds. I definitely feel the lack of foot traffic encourages the fish to come in closer to feed. Have had some good session out there.

Re: blacks mixed bag 7/20
I made it to blacks yesterday, thanks for this thread—first time. I took the glider port instructions. The scenic views and hang gliders were truly incredible. It was the first high tide of the day, and the current was ripping south with large and small vegetation roaming with it—no Bueno.
I ...

Re: blacks mixed bag 7/20
Yea blacks is pretty much all sand structure. It's not until you walk pretty far north (just before flat rock) that you start seeing hard structure and a mix of sand/rock. All the extra sand just means more sand crabs for the fish to eat.

Re: Jetty Legality
Not all jetties are public, some can and are private structures. Just like you can't walk past a boat dock gate at low tide and climb up it to fish. Even public jetties can have restricted access for various reasons (like south jetty in MB). If there's a gate or signs for no fishing, just find ...

Re: Mission Beach 8/2
The surf definitely has gotten tough this past week. Tons of weeds at Blacks too. If I let my line sit for more than 10 seconds I was pulling in a weed ball. I nearly skunked too. But ended up with 2 in the final hour. Hope the weeds get pushed out soon and the bite turns back on.

Re: North County trips.
only got to fish an hour this weekend after work in the rain. Went to cardiff and saw birds diving. Tried the jerk bait and spoon but no luck. Saw a few other dudes fishing and I think I saw one pull in a bass and the other a big croaker. Not sure what they used and how they were managing with all ...
