Lake Powell Trip

Post by Dfishin »

Did our every other year trip to Powell. Yes water is lower, but it is still big and deep. Landed on a great beach in last chance bay. We caught a lot fish, small mouth, strippers, catfish, carp and blue gill. No walleye this time, no big strippers. My son remarried and we have 3 added grand kids to our group. They have never fished before. I brought enough rods for all the kids to fish. Once I helped with the first couple fish, they took off fishing. Anchovies, bread, hot dogs and plastics. They even would catch crawdads for bait. Me I fished with the same, added in crankbaits, under spins, fluke and top water. Fluke was the winner for me. Didn't really take many pics of fish, to busy with the 7 grandkids (not a bad thing). No rods broke, but my net was. So I had them try to repair it so they could still use it Always a blast.

Wow, just looking at the faces of some of your grandkids is a testimonial of an outstanding fun time everyone had. Loved the pics and thank you for sharing your fishing adventure with us all. Tight lines always :-)

Did you catch strippers with the grandkids present or kept that for afterwards? I hear $100 bills are good bait.

The big strippers are not as nice to look at as the other sizes, IMO. Taste is personal, though.

Any pics of the strippers?

The stripers weren't around the house boat. Once you find a school it's fishes on. We caught them trolling, underspins and anchovies. as soon as we got them to the boat released in the water as they tend to die when kept out of the water. Didn't get any pics, they averaged 1 1/2 to 2 lbs.

Sounds like a great trip... Love fishing with my grandkids, even if they are 20 and 25... I had my kids on a house boat in Powel, many years ago, when they were still young, but never the grandkids.. Bet 7 was a handful... WTG Gramps...
