HBB8 3/21
Went down to mission beach to fish the HBB8 (Honey Badger Baits) tournament this morning. Tons of holes from tower 11 through 13, but they didn’t fill in til a bit later since the low tide was around 5:45am. Fished the LC 110 for a few hours, switched to c rig after some nice angler gifted me a cup full of ghost shrimp and sandworms. Pulled a dinky BSP on my first cast but never hooked up again. Seemed like a rough day for most people, but others did have success. Winners from the 3 categories were a 20” halibut, 21” (i think) corbina and a 13” BSP. Honestly the structure was looking great, but bite just seemed tough. Got many bites on the ghost shrimp but couldn’t connect. The wind picked up a bit and it was really foggy from like 8-10am.
Was still a good time, fun to see so many anglers at the beach at once! Looking forward to more success at the next one.

Sounds familiar from a few others; tough to connect seems to have been a common theme. A few good hook ups for a some will bring you back.

$20 buy in open to anybody. Any legal means to fish. Bait is also legal. I have fun meeting people from all over the coast. Larry sets the tournament up and he runs a great show. My Partner caught the Halibut.

Re: HBB8 3/21
To be honest, I found out from a random FB thread where someone posted a picture about it. Probably could look them up on FB? I heard there will be another 2 this year, 1 in the summer and 1 in the fall.Nelson 1 wrote: Sun Mar 22, 2026 11:51 amWhere do I look up dates and times for the next tournaments. Re: HBB8 3/21
Do you happen to know
1) how many fish were caught overall?
2) how many participants there were?
3) start / end time of event?
Those metrics, combined, would give me a better sense of the futility of my hobby.

If you go on Honey Badger FB page they have pictures. No fish count. Check in was at 7:00 till 11:30 I think.. looks like fun.kastmaster wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 8:57 am Do you happen to know

Re: HBB8 3/21
Ya not sure on total fish count, but there were 39 participants. Fishing was from 7:30 - 10:30, then handed out prizes and giveaways.Nelson 1 wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 11:22 amIf you go on Honey Badger FB page they have pictures. No fish count.
