Fished the pier at Otay today and didn’t get any bites. Tried a drop shot roboworm, wacky rigged senko, crank baits and jerk baits. BUT, some kids near me caught 4-5 bass with live minnows and bluegill, just casting out and letting them swim/wiggle around. After a while I checked out the cove next to the pier and saw some busters around a patch of grass, so I threw small swim baits around there with different presentations but again, no bites.
Note: I’ve only been bass fishing for the past few months and still learning! Would appreciate any bank fishing tips you guys have. Thanks!

The Best advice I ever got , 40 years ago, was get a Float Tube. For very little cost, you can skip shore fishing and fish every “unaccessible by shore” spot easily. I’ve caught so many more fish because of it. You get access to all the docks in the Harbor, you can fish the steep rocks at the lakes and everything in between. Here in So Cal you can truck it comfort 6 months out of the year. Just swim trunks and fins, the other 6 months require a pair of Waders, still no big deal.

While you can get away with swim trunks in the ocean in the summer months, all the city lakes require waders and no direct water contact, but I agree, a float tube will change your life as far as fishing goes. So little shore is available in a lot of our lakes in comparison to getting on the water.

You can also Trunk it at Lake Perris, Elsinore, Silverwood, Gregory, Big Bear, Castaic, Piru, Casitas, Pyramid, and all the Colorado River Lakes.

Agree, get a tube, fins, and waders. But just know a boat will be next
