Black's 4/24

Post by Neuroshima »

The fishing sucked. It was windy and the water felt cold. I only saw one spotfin and he was in the air.

Not a skunk, cuz you managed to get a spotfin photo in the report.

Thanks but I've just been getting lucky with my camera phone, @Andrew_WOT . I was taking video of this guy lifting off and he happened to turn around and come right towards me, probably because of the seagulls that were harassing him. While videotaping I was also using the still shot function and lucked out.

If you want to see the videos, they are on my Instagram.

I technically caught a 3-in perch to beat the official skunk, but those don't really count in my mind.

They definitely count if it’s the only thing you catch 😂

I was at Torrey Pines Thursday morning low tide. Walk south all the way to flat Rock . Was able to get around flat Rock with the tide being low. But I don't think you can get around it at high tide. Unless you climb the cliff. But south of flat Rock there is so much open beach with nobody on it. Did not catch anything. But it was a good hike.

There used to be a path along the cliffs that you could cautiously walk during high tide to get around flat Rock. Someone mentioned a few years back that it eroded away. I haven't checked for myself.

The seclusion of Black's is one of the reasons why I always fish it. I almost never have a problem with someone in my backcast. The La Jolla canyon also empties out onto the beach, which is why it's such a great surfing spot. That, coupled with the east-ward bend in the beach creates excellent structure. It just so happens that it's the closest in proximity to me, so I'm taking full advantage while I can.

Keep name-dropping in your reports and you're gonna love the crowds lined up on the beach down there during peak season.

Most fisherman aren't willing to commit to the walk / hike. Then there is a subset that are just afraid of seeing naked people. Not worried about anyone blowing up secret spots, especially one with so much real estate.

Plus, aren't we here to help each other? We fish at the beach, haha. It's pretty big. Quick google search brings up most of the spots talked about here, anyway.

My other passion is golf, and I see similarities in the general preference to have no crowds at all, but that would ultimately be a bad thing. The more people into this, the more info we can share and gather from each other, and the more successes (and fun!) we all end up having. Its a net positive for sure, in my eyes.

So what's the name of this beach in La Jolla, again?
