Got guitarfish, small ray, and legal hali on Torrey Pines today, everything on LC 110.
Guitarfish was pulling like a freight train, took good 5 minutes of fighting to land.

Re: North County trips.
Tamarack 3-22-26. 1 8" BSP on the c-rig grub. I hooked something so large I could not pull it in and then it shook the hook.
Same happened to me last week, C-Rig Gulp worm, thought I snagged as couldn't pull the line, but then felt some head shakes and line started zipping from the reel, I ...

Re: 3-31-2026 Strand legal session!
Nice one, congrats.
Just be careful on SS, I see you are barefoot, might not be completely safe, can catch some bug.

And after trying all sort of small jars in the field finally found one that doesn't leak.

Re: Mission Beach 5/24
I’d have to push back on the fish bites. I started using them this year. The EZ-Flea and Clam. Just a small piece on a hook has been killing it for me. The perch don’t seem to go for it as much but I’ve had several 10+ fish sessions this year on solid yellowfin and spotfins. A single piece ...

Re: Mission 10/28
Things were slow on TP today as well, not much salad, but not much fish either.
Started with swimbait, switched to C-Rig later, one lousy perch on a dry lugworm. Plenty of sand crabs beds, saw few decent ones.
Beautiful morning though, but that's it.

Torrey Pines 7/17
Was at the beach before 6AM, super low tide. Was able to find some sand crabs.
No bites, even single nibble on C-Rig, was about to call it a day when things picked up after 7:30 AM with incoming tide.
Got Corbina (first this season), 2 Yellowfin Croakers, Sting Ray, and Barred SurfPerch.
Left ...

Re: Torrey Pines 7/17
Nice, I saw them going for Lucky Craft as well. Here.
Something I should try next outing perhaps, hali is so rare and Yellow fin is not a bad bycatch to beat the skunk.

Re: Mission Beach 7/26
Got skunked Tuesday morning at TP, could only find micro crabs, gulp worms, dried lugworms, fishbites, plastic grubs, nothing worked, not even a nibble.
Saturday evening as some family beach time side activity were able to forage some medium sized crabs, good incoming tide, but no bites whatsoever ...

Re: August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
No crabs on TP, couldn't even find micros.
One session tried swimbait around reefs, Flat Rock, not even a single nibble, C-Rig with dried lugworm produced single undersized yellowfin croaker. Saw few jumbo corbinas roaming shallows though, not sure what they are feeding on.
Next session just few ...

Re: Torrey Pines 08-21-2026
On a side note, windnsea had decent size crabs last month. I guess I was expecting that to be the case at every beach.
Thanks for the report, TP had decent size crabs too last month, it was just inconsistent, one day they are there, the next day they are gone. And I have only seen micros ...

Torrey Pines 9/15
Was there before sunrise, fairly clear water, not much seaweed.
Couldn't find any sand crabs beds, like at all. Started with dried lugworms, nothing, switched to gulp sandworms, nothing.
Like a desert, not even a nibble, even no birds in the surf line or any kind of activity, no rays, no beans ...
