Black's 4/24
The fishing sucked. It was windy and the water felt cold. I only saw one spotfin and he was in the air.

Thanks but I've just been getting lucky with my camera phone, @Andrew_WOT . I was taking video of this guy lifting off and he happened to turn around and come right towards me, probably because of the seagulls that were harassing him. While videotaping I was also using the still shot function and lucked out.Nelson 1 wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 8:50 amNice picture. I technically caught a 3-in perch to beat the official skunk, but those don't really count in my mind.kastmaster wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2026 9:36 pm Not a skunk, cuz you managed to get a spotfin photo in the report.

They definitely count if it’s the only thing you catchNeuroshima wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 10:29 amI technically caught a 3-in perch to beat the official skunk, but those don't really count in my mind.kastmaster wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2026 9:36 pm Not a skunk, cuz you managed to get a spotfin photo in the report.

Re: Black's 4/24
I was at Torrey Pines Thursday morning low tide. Walk south all the way to flat Rock . Was able to get around flat Rock with the tide being low. But I don't think you can get around it at high tide. Unless you climb the cliff. But south of flat Rock there is so much open beach with nobody on it. Did not catch anything. But it was a good hike.Neuroshima wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2026 8:38 pm The fishing sucked. It was windy and the water felt cold. I only saw one spotfin and he was in the air.

There used to be a path along the cliffs that you could cautiously walk during high tide to get around flat Rock. Someone mentioned a few years back that it eroded away. I haven't checked for myself.
The seclusion of Black's is one of the reasons why I always fish it. I almost never have a problem with someone in my backcast. The La Jolla canyon also empties out onto the beach, which is why it's such a great surfing spot. That, coupled with the east-ward bend in the beach creates excellent structure. It just so happens that it's the closest in proximity to me, so I'm taking full advantage while I can.
