Frankenstein bait at El Cap 8/15

Post by Dannicus »

Much like earlier in the week I caught a couple of topwater early and 1 jig fish. After that the only thing that seemed to get their attention was a worm. So I T-rigged it and caught 6 or 7 that way but over half of them choked it, necessitating surgery. This is the primary reason I find of stopped worm fishing so much. It's really effective but so many choked baits.

So I decided to try something @Pourboy and I discussed at Barrett last weekend. I threaded a floating worm on a 3/16 Keitech jig and yep! It Works! The benefit of a nice wiggly worm with jig sets right in the top of the mouth in most cases.

Final count was 18 with nothing over 3 pounds but still a fun day and a promising new technique to explore.

Good job Dan.
Thats why I always mix up a lot of my baits and throw a lot of different things. Because I believe the bass have seen so many baits that are normal…. It’s fun to try a lot of different things. Looks like you had fun. Thanks for sharing and tight lines always :-)

That's awesome! I will have to throw that soon myself. Thanks for the confirmation that it works.

I started doing that back in the 70's because I thought pork frogs were too bulky...

I have no idea. I just got tired of fish swallowing my worm so I put it on the jig. I'm not claiming any originality with it haha.
