Surf fishing waders — what do y'all use?
Hey everyone! As the water temp has dropped, I figured it's time to buy some chest waders.
There are so many options out there, from $35 to $900. What do you guys use? I want it to come with boots instead of stockingfoot.
Should I just get the cheaper option like this?
It's PVC/Nylon

The first photo looks like what I got from Amazon a few years back and worked well for me. Still in good shape, no leakage. Nick Heid did a review on waders awhile back & believe he just reposted a few weeks ago. Go to his site: https://surffishingsocalsd.com/

I'm leaning towards the cheaper option too. Most reviews are positive and if this thing lasts me couple years I'll be satisfied, just buy another for $40.Perch killer wrote: Mon Dec 02, 2024 11:56 am The first photo looks like what I got from Amazon a few years back and worked well for me. Make sure you use the waist belt . If you are knocked down and pushed into the surf it can be very difficult to keep your head above water the bouncy factor in the legs will try to put you head down , try to get the air out before tightening the belt . I use breathable ones boot foot and camo as I use them for hunting as well as fishing . Neoprene are warmer and more buoyant but for my fat ass a bit harder to put on . Neo are also harder to repair leaks than breathable , holes happen .The breathable are easy to layer under for varying conditions .The last 15 years , Cabelas Northern flight have been my choice going on 5 seasons with the current set ,last set lasted nearly 10 . Rugged and a good value . I do wash them after use and armor all the boot section to keep it from degrading . Good luck in your search . ADD / Edit , A good waterproof jacket over the outside helps keep water out of the waders when there is a problem . WR

Re: Surf fishing waders — what do y'all use?
I've never used waders for surf fishing, just shorts and barefooting it.. Cold didn't bother me much... I always teased my fishing buddies for wearing them.. BUT.. Now I'm having some skin cancer issues on my lower legs and feet... I have a few open biopsy wounds and a few upcoming Mohs surgeries so I'll have to keep the feet dry, clean and sun free for the next few months... So if I want to surf fish, the waders will be the only thing I can think of to do the job.. Bill, I'll take a look at those Cabelas waders, if they aren't too expensive... Thanks for the suggestion..

I should note here that I put waders through hell . Hunting in rough conditions , kneeling and brush wacking Etc . If you just need to cover up so to speak for the next year on the beach any wader should do the job . You may want to see what Sportsmens Warehouse has particularly if you have a store nearby . Pay attention to how the boot portion fits so walking longer distances will not be a problem . Even big 5 has some budget minded breathables IF they fit you . Trying them on has a big benefit . Take care out there . WR

I won’t be putting these to hard use… Just walking on the sand, so I’m thinking most wear would be in thighs rubbing or crotch… Also thinking of stocking foot and light sandals of some sort, for lighter weight…Maybe a cheaper pair will work…

Re: Surf fishing waders — what do y'all use?
Hey all I use my waders weekly and have had many different varieties over the years. Here is a company that I found (Paramount Outdoors) and purchased their Zipper Front Deep Eddy. The zipper is amazing!!! The best I have ever had. They don't have boots attached but I highly recommend them. They are breathable and double thick at the mid leg area (2 layers) with neoprene feet.
Also when I reached out to them to tell them how much I like their products they gave a code for people who watch my videos to get 20% off. (I do not get money from this) I just wanted to support a company that I like and pass on some savings. I just got their Whetstone Wading Jacket too and now I have my raincoat/windbreaker as well. Hit me up if you have any questions.

Another company reached out to me to try their stuff and I tried and liked some of their boots but have not tried their waders (Boots Attached and a bit less expensive). They also gave me a code for people to use.

Re: Surf fishing waders — what do y'all use?
Never used Waders in the Surf here. I was raised by a Surf Fisherman. My Pops believed if you got washed out in those things, you drown. To each their own…I save my Simms Waders for the Sierras and Float Tubing. They cost a few bucks but have 20 years of use and look and work fine. My buddies that buy cut rate ones….are always wet. Absolutely do not buy Waders with Boots. Guaranteed blisters. A good pair of Neoprene Wading Boots from Bass Pro are great for walking the Sand.
