Barrett Lake record
I forget it’s been awhile, but what’s the record bass here? Does anyone know of where it was caught? We’re not trying to catch but need to settle an argument. I don’t know where it was but my buddy says it was caught at Becky’s Cove?

Re: Barrett Lake record
12lbs and change as far as I know. It wasn't caught on rod and reel or even while fishing so I don't know if you'd count it, but it was released safely.
No clue what the actual fishing record is. Have personally caught and weighed many 8lb and change fish. Never caught or witnessed a 9lb+ class fish there.
The lake needs like a 14-16 inch slot limit with a mandatory 2 LMB harvest per angler so the fish can grow bigger tbh. Used to catch numerous 6-8lb a season, now I feel incredibly lucky to catch a single 6lb.

Re: Barrett Lake record
Agree with MistrRocko that some harvesting is needed to get bigger bass but that won’t ever happen. I have a 9lb out of there, caught in August of 2019. It measured 25 inches after it bottomed out my cheap scale at 8lbs. Did the old measurements formula which said 9+ but I’m rounding down. It was definitely an anomaly in my 30 years of fishing there (since the year it reopened and getting a postcard picked out of a true lottery). My biggest fish other than that one might be a 5. I want to say one of the rangers there has said a 14 is the record but I could be wrong.

Re: Barrett Lake record
I think the record was a Bass with a lot more Florida Strain in it that wash down stream from Morena, during the El Ninos of the 93, 95 or 97 years? Not sure what the weight was. I want to say it was a low teener.
I have also hear tails of trout being caught in Barrett washing down from Morena. This all sounds logical, but it could also be Wives Tails?

Interesting. That story is on here from the “horse’s mouth”and there wasn’t a scale used…..pretty accurate weight for no scale and the fact they say “the scale said”

Re: Barrett Lake record
This is my fisherkid, and you're absolutely right -- no scale was used and even the length was an estimate. I originally estimated that it was larger than 25", but then had some consensus here that measuring the boy from the bottom of his shoulder to the top of his knee cap would be the best estimate. That measurement was 27", which equates to 11.96lbs on the conversion chart. But alas, just estimates for fun. I am kicking myself for not spending a little more time with that fish. Theo could barely hold it up, and we wanted to get it back in the water safely as soon as possible...camobass wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2024 12:42 pm Interesting. Re: Barrett Lake record
@Fisheromen told me about the digital scale from China on eBay, was like $1.99, works great. Not to own one? PRICELESS. I order 3 at a time, they get lost, break, etc., nice to have backup, just in case.
We (some posters here) usually have fun grossly underestimating weights when folks catch a lunker and then post here and ask for guesses. Moral of the story, don't be that guy! ;/)
PS If you ask me, I'd say it's at least a five! ;/)
PPS What's really priceless is his look. Blow that pic up and frame it, frame it with the lure, or similar, too.

Re: Barrett Lake record
PPPS I would have tied a string on the fish (made a 'stringer') and kept it in the lake til someone came along w/ a scale, fish like that don't come along but once in a lifetime for most bass fishermen. In fact, very few ever get on over 6 or 7 (southern states heavier overall of course).

Re: Barrett Lake record
I'm curious where this picture was taken? Did the dock previously have this up or was it somewhere else?
