Two weeks ago I was at Barrett and saw a dead rabbit in the water. I realized why the big rat lures work right there.
But for me, consistently this crazy crawler is the strangest thing I use ( and variants ) and every week I get some fish to claim it.

Re: The BFs "Craze"
Ok, have to admit, did not know what BFS stood for. A little search and for those others not 'in the loop', here's the break down. Interesting.
(I hate downsizing, so I'll hold off for a while. Guess if I fished tournaments, I'd have to get into it).

Re: Still picking away at the "polluted" lake
In a "fake news" story on the local news, they referred to Lake Hodges as being closed to windsurfing because it was "polluted". This is not true in a number of ways including:
1. that is not the actual reason
2. it was never closed for pollution
3. it is not polluted

9/14- Return to the SD River
After picking up some dinks yesterday at Murray, I decided to try somewhere different this morning. With a slightly cooler weather forecast, I headed down to the San Diego river. Last time I was there was in early June and with no launch or permit fees...I figured what the heck. Not much was going ...

Hi VinnyBass
I totally took it that you had a great day and maybe even enjoyed the mystery of losing a bigger fish. I lost what must have been a monster earlier this year at Barrett on a deep diving crankbait, but for the few seconds that fish was peeling drag effortlessly (15lb mono), the ...

Re: Alternative to Lake Hodges?
Hey McFish, we went for the late afternoon/ evening session and didn’t get any action at all. I threw crankbaits, swimbaits, and Senkos. I don’t know if it was me, my float tube, or the fish, but I did see that another poster caught 6. Maybe he was out there in the morning or I don’t know how to ...

San V on top
If you're going to chase the breakers, you're going to need some patience(sorry Vinny)! I got on the water at 6:00, with a decent Santa Ana blowing. Since I was only going after topwater fish, that wasn't really helpful! About 8:00, the wind turned around to an onshore breeze and the fish started to ...

Murray 12/5
As you know from my posts in the panfish section I've had a ton of fun recently targeting large Bluegill and Crappie on ultralight gear and micro lures. So today I decided to go after Bass on the same gear. I caught 6 Largemouths. Nothing huge but they sure felt like it on those whippy rods and ...

San V 12/7 totally different day
Today was a totally different day from Monday. Not nearly the amount of fish busting shad in the bushes but there were still some sporadic boils. Fished from 6:30- 3pm. Not a lot of bites but the quality was good. Ended up with 9 in the boat. Best 5 went 14 1/2 lbs. Things were totally backwards ...

Re: San V 12/7 totally different day
Good job! The lakes are crazy this year! The patterns change so fast...can't wait to see what next week brings! Don't those fish know that they're not suppose to be shallow now??

2/16 SD River: After the flooding
Got up this morning and went to a nice breakfast with Deb(bacon/eggs/toast...no crepes today McFish). Later, I found myself in my garage which basically means I started messing around with fishing gear to pass time. I picked up a few clones at Murray the other day and kept thinking about a bass I ...

Re: C&R gone too far?
I guess I’m lucky in that I don’t eat fish. Go figure! I’ve been fishing since I was 4yrs old, so 53yrs. I have tried fish every way possible and the only way I can eat it is in a fish taco, or deep fried, which kind of defeats the purpose of eating fish. I actually wish I did like fish but I cannot ...

Re: C&R gone too far?
They are good for the garden too
That is funny that you bring that up because it is so true. When I was younger, every once in a while I used to bring a few bass home to my father. Some may have been gut-hooked with a worm hook for example, but nevertheless he would clean them and prepare them ...

4/8-You guessed it....Murray
Just for today..... I am going to save you guys from reading me babbling on and on.
So here are a few pics of some fish I caught in (McFish will be shocked again) water depths
around 25-35 feet of water.
Hopefully the warmer weather will spur up more action in closer. Tight lines :-)

Hodges report April 10
Hello all,
Got out bright and earlyish to Hodges. Something like 0630. No wind at all and water temp was 62F. Also no blanket of fog on the water, so you could see pretty well. Kind of made me miss the fog. Water was warm enough for me to poke around with the popper, and follow with the spinnerbait ...

Hodges April 21 report
Well it was a long day, but ended up productive enough for me, caught 7 farmed 2. Go there and it was still a bit dark, but everyone had already got a ticket and headed to the lake...The opened the gate EARLY? That's a new one. Headed over to Hernandez side and commenced shore pounding. First fish ...

Hodges report April 27
Got out on the lake at first light. Have to say the lake had the feel like something was going to happen. Spoiler alert, good day, but nothing epic. Did talk to someone who pulled a 6 pounder on a 10" senko. Water was 66F, wind calm, skies were alternating between scattered and broken.

8/28-Mixing it up
Yeah, I know you guys are tired of my Lake Murray reports, but I tried to make it a little more interesting.

Tues 8/27
Took my good friend Randy (who is still new to fishing) out float tubing at Murray, hoping to get him introduced to some topwater action. He was really jazzed as he landed his first three topwater bass, one of which went 4.3 lbs. Sadly no picture though as he dropped it taking it off the scale.
