Murray 5/13 and my go to bait.
Fun day at Murray. Final count was 7, albeit mostly clones. I thought I'd share my go-to bait. It's been killing them at Murray, but at El Cap and Otay too.
It's a 3/16 oz Keitech Tungsten jig, with a Crush City Ned's BLT trailer. The jig seems to help target bigger fish than the Ned rig alone. I can work it like a jig, or stop it and just shake it because the bait stands up when it sits there. This is the bait responsible for the 8 and a half pounder I caught a couple of weeks ago so it seems to catch all sizes.

I love the Keitech tungsten jigs. My go to jig is the Model 2 tungsten football jig in 1/4oz (wish they made the football in 3/16 too) with either an OSP DoLive Beaver or a Keitech Flex chunk Trailer.Dannicus wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 3:05 pm Fun day at Murray. I have caught more fish on the jig with the Ned trailer than I have on an actual Ned. It’s a very cool hybrid jig!

Looked for you on Monday at Murray and glad to see you back on the water there. No mud or quicksand like El Cap...ha ha
Nice Job Dan. Thanks for sharing and hope to see you on the water soon.

Re: Murray 5/13 and my go to bait.
BLT has worked great for me on Ned rig, both at Barrett last year and on the bay. Good to see that some manufacturers other than just Z-man are using TPE now. So much more durable than PVC plastisol. The action seems better too.
Unexpected that a bait like the BLT works better than minnow or craw shaped baits as we have heard for years about how a lure resembles a minnow, shad, craw, etcetera. Clearly, effective lures don't have to resemble anything in nature, they just need to look like something that is easy to catch that might be alive and possibly good to eat. Fish wise up to hard plastic lures quickly but there is something about soft plastics that they find difficult to resist.

I started using the other rig you showed us with the BLT. Skirted sinker and a small EWG. Weedless and it produces. Thanks Dan!

They are really cool jigs, not the cheapest, but really sharp and durable with hand tied skirts.CorsoEnthusiast wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 6:18 pmI love the Keitech tungsten jigs. Yeah brother! I really love that rig over rocks! The jig has a bit stouter hook.Socalspartan wrote: Thu May 14, 2026 6:38 am I started using the other rig you showed us with the BLT. Skirted sinker and a small EWG. Weedless and it produces. Thanks Dan!

Agreed! I think the ridges on the Ned's BLT gives it a little more wiggle than the Z-Man Ned. It has really worked for me lately.Gotfish? wrote: Thu May 14, 2026 4:37 am BLT has worked great for me on Ned rig, both at Barrett last year and on the bay.
