Best luck so far

Post by Osidecoffee »

Well. I’ve had my moments of luck so far, but nothing quite like this one yet. Fishing one of my go to spotty spots, and was working my last few casts before heading back to the car. It was after sunset, and I had seen a few small ripples on the water. I had a free rig tied in with a 3” fluke, so I figured I’d start working it almost as soon as it hit the water. It didn’t take long for it it get absolutely hammered. With the run that this fish went on, I was almost afraid it was a ray for a few seconds. Brought it closer to land, and was able to turn its head a few times and keep it moving in the right direction. It’s safe to say I lost my mind a little when I finally landed it. This is my first “I don’t think I’ll ever catch an (insert species here) like that ever again…” Luckily, I’ve got a lot of somewhat attainable other PB’s to work on!

27+ inch Corvina will be written in stone for me I think!

Nice fish. Never had a ray make a run of more than a few feet. Often when hooked on a ray, I initially thought I was snagged on the bottom only to realize the snag moved slowly.

I had never hooked up to a ray in the lagoons until I had something completely spool me earlier in the year. Once it started pulling drag, there was no stopping it, no matter how much I tightened my drag. I just tell myself it was probably one of those 3 foot wide rays. Didn’t feel any shakes, or anything. I’m not even sure it knew it was hooked…
