South Bay 12/6

Went out with the Mrs. this morning. Fished the area I should have fished last weekend after seeing a few promising posts this week. Bite was hot up to the slack tide, then wasted some time looking around. Came back to the south Cays area after a while for a steady pick. Clicker read 41 when we ...

Re: North County trips.

I fished Carlsbad near lifeguard tower 36 around high tide. There was one other angler there. He was using what looked like a camo sandworm. I didn't see him catch anything. I was using a 1" red with blue flake curly tail grub and caught one BSP. I had another pull the hook off because I neglected ...

Re: Coronado fishing

jwacky, yeah maybe if they play there again. I definitely would try the bay side especially if the wind was westerly. The beach had a lot of trash on it, especially plastics. Even a “beach whistle” which I thought was an east coast thing. Plenty of parking there and easy walking.

People seem to ...

Re: Coronado fishing

My quests start from Anaheim, I was 0 for 9 before I was successful. My next quest is a Lake Trout out of Tahoe on my Kayak. I understand the locals up there get them on the slo pitch jigs over meter marks. I’m all for it plus I hear they are spectacular eating. Others on the list are Tiger Muskie ...

Re: Coronado fishing

The park in Bendo's map is where I launch my float tube. From shore, it can be terrific or terrible. If you find yourself in that area, there's another option: Crown Cove. Parking's free at 1573 Attu Avenue. A five minute walk to Crown Cove aquatic center. There's a marked swimming area, but no one ...

Mission Beach 12/13

Finally got back out to Mission Beach after last week’s king tides. Fished the outgoing tide from about 6:30 - 9:00. The water wasn’t super clean, with seaweed scattered on the shore and in the water. Thankfully, it wasn’t floating in huge clumps so I was able to avoid it pretty easily.

As for the ...

Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026

Hi all!

2025 was the my first year of surf fishing after many, many years of fishing freshwater around San Diego. It all started on a camping trip at South Carlsbad State Beach before Memorial Day Weekend. I'd joked that I was just going to eat what I caught, and brought a couple small poles and ...

Re: Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026

Great Post! They only thing I can add is "time on the water". Nothing beats time on the water for learning by trial and error. Plus, when you have bad days that means (from a probability prospective) that you'll have just that many good days to come! Thanks for spreading the passion!

Bolsa Chica 01/29/26

I wasn't gonna post this, because of the louse fishing, but I do enjoy reading your reports, so, fair is fair... Met up with my buddy of 65 years at Bolsa Chica for some much needed beach time at about 6AM... Tide was falling like a rock, but the weather and conditions were great..I used freeze ...

Re: North County trips.

Fish Report: Hey all, I have been sick since before Christmas and finally guessed, correctly, that I had enough reserve energy to go fishing yesterday.

Free gift offer at the end of this fish report, first-come, first-served. If the meetup is convenient, I hit South Del Mar before sunrise with ...

Mission Beach 2/8

Much better conditions at Mission Beach with the later low tide. 6:15 until about 8:00, six perch total. Most mid size, a couple finger sized. Lug worms were the easy preference for the fish. Mussels got some nibbles but only one actually caught on them. Interestingly (or not, I’m not sure if it ...
