North Redondo Corbina 10/5

Post by Mike M »

I found a medium/large sand crab that looked like a soft shell, but was hard when I touched it. I thought, "If I was fooled, maybe a corbina would be fooled too." Sure enough, a short cast into less than 12" of water found this corbina.

Nice catch, Mike. Recent experience has shown me that any large sand crab will get bitten when there are not many big crab options available. Even if there are lots of small sand crabs, any big one will bring a higher catch rate for beans and spot fin. It's a shame the perch will smash the big one, too, though, especially when big crabs are scarce. I still get a kick out of seeing the orange bead and remembering your whole rig, Mike. It works! Good job.

Sometimes you can peel the big ones, enough that it’s worth trying. Sometimes i just crack them open.
