El Cap 9/9
With the Murr closed I decided to go to the captain yesterday after dropping off the kids at school. I didn't get on the water till a little after 9, and caught the very tail end of the morning busters.
I got 1 on a Gunfish early, and then had to move down in the water column. Picked up a few more burning a chatterbait over the outside edge of the grass lines, then switched to my trusty jig for the rest.
Final count was 11, mostly in the 2 pound range with the best going just under 4. It was a little cooler yesterday than it has been, but for once I was grateful for the wind. There were billions of some kind of tiny little green gnats everywhere, and when the air was still they swarmed me. Mouth, eyes, ears, nose, nothing was safe from those pesky things.
Bugs, aside, it was still a pretty fun trip.
Tight lines everyone!

Re: El Cap 9/9
If consistent means old, tired, lazy, and liking to float around in my inflatable yacht chair throwing around fishing lures several days per week then yeah GUILTY haha. Catching is just a bonus. I always said that someday I would retire and fish...dreams really do come true.vito1023 wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2025 5:33 am Very nice, your Mr. consistent that’s what you are.

Re: El Cap 9/9
There were boats on the water, but one guy backed his trailer wheels off the end of the ramp and couldn't pull it back out. He ended up swimming and lifting the trailer while his buddy pulled it forward. I suspect that it's going to get increasingly hard to launch there.

Not sure if sad is the word, maybe infuriating that they have allowed yet another city lake to be effectively taken out of operation for boaters.

Re: El Cap 9/9
The ramp is closed now.
https://www.sandiego.gov/reservoirs-lak ... -reservoir
The boat launch ramp at El Capitan Reservoir is closed due to low water levels. Available water activities include shore fishing, canoes, car toppers, kayaks and float tubes.
We got another Lake Hodges type situation on our hands.

Re: El Cap 9/9
EC closure just shows how little the city cares for the fishermen. It seems like just a few months ago they were letting water run dn the river instead of transferring it to SV. They spent a long time repairing the spillway I guess for not
