Shark/Ray fishing De Anza

I went out last night to try for sharks and rays for the first time. Decided to try de anza cove thanks to dj thrillz post for mission bay. While I didn't get skunked, I definitely could have done things better. Ended up with a little smooth hound and a couple of small rays. The larger setups received no love. And with that, I have some questions. I fished the middle of de anza, which seems quite shallow. Would i have better luck fishing towards the opening where it might be deeper or deeper channels in general? Would you recommend using longer 10ft+ setups to get your line out further? I want to give it another go and would love some pointers if you have any.

When I fish for Bat Rays I would go to the west side of Leisure Lagoon. Throw my line towards Fiesta Island . But have not done it in a long time.

You are near the right areas of the back section of Mission bay . I am not good at screen shots etc but the channel area north of leisure lagoon and between Fiesta Island and west MBD . You want some tide movement I prefer high going out , Lots of chum in the tide flow , note it will be moving north on this type tide . Freshest bait you can get , Macks , Croaker , Perch . Dines , Jacksmelt all will work but fresh is the key . Create a chum line and fish it . Been many larger grade Sharks and Rays from that area . Plug this into google earth 32 47 19.72 N , 117 12 12.41 W . Will give an Idea of where . I usually have fished the Fiesta Island side . . Good Luck .

Thank you for all the great info! I was fishing some fresh croaker the i caught a couple hours ahead. But I only received action on some smaller pieces of squid and grunion. Which lead me to believe I either wasn't getting my line out far enough or I was just in the wrong area. Are you casting out very far? Are you using a longer rod? Currently I dont have and heavy setups that have a rod longer than 7ft. So it's a little hard to get it out there i might have to consider getting one if so.

Wrong time of year for the back of MB. It does better winter - spring.
