Rocks, trees, and Vinnybass....

Classic D.K..! If you want the better fish, you have to be on the rock piles or the trees! Even better is where the trees meet the rocks! The down side, I lost at least 4 nice fish and re-tied alot of leaders. I probably shredded at least 30' of leader material! If you just want sheer numbers of fish, fish the flats and bare banks, they're covered with small fish...which Vinny and his pink worm can confirm! It's definitely a challenge fishing the trees and rock piles, but is worth it if you can get the fish out of them...and heavier line is not the answer, the trees have teeth! I ended the day with 22 fish, left the biggest ones in the trees! It was disappointing losing the bigger fish, but definitely exciting and fun times! Fisheromen promised me 23 fish at the start of the day...I'll have to talk to him about my lowly 22 fish! I spent the first couple hours throwing a spoon into breaking fish, crazy fun fishing..something I've not really done at D.K. before...not sure why...saving it for Murray and San V I guess! I realized today that if you float tube around Vinny, bring a patch kit..he bounced a crawbait with a 4/0 hook off my tube..boing!! I also learned that Fisheroman is a master of the Gunfish...me, not so much! If you're heat challenged (Vinny), D.K. probably not the lake for you the next 3 months..toasty!

You are the one who named it "Vinny's rock pile" by the way and you only experienced the crawbait hitting your tube as a friendly warning as you were hovering right over where I wanted to cast. That area took a lot of our rigs and shredded lots of line, but it was fun watching you put your head down facing the water after missing another hook set on a bass while letting out a big "OHHHH!"
Just messing with you of course as you landed a lot more than I did. Nice job as always and sad you lost some big ones.....I could have sworn you were laughing when I lost fish. Anyway you hit that nail on the head as @Fisheromen really was nailing fish on that Gunfish. Every time you asked him what color it was, I think he told you a different color or maybe I just imagined it or maybe not. Thanks for sharing. Tight lines always.

I spent a lot of time underwater at Lake Perris in the Glenn Lau Era. He produced a film called Bigmouth in 1973 that spurred me to become a Scuba and later Freediver. I was making Money diving for Keys and hooking up sunken Car/Trucks at the Launch ramp (it happens more than you would think)and searching the Rock Dam for Anchors that I would sell to a place in Newport Beach called Minneys. Even at $10 an anchor I could make $100 a trip. Plus the Lures. Hundreds of Lures. People would cut their anchor rodes at the surface and the rope would eventually sink and then fill with Lures. I still have crates full of them. Also lots of chain that is now used for decoration around my back Patio. The water at Perris was crystal clear and 84 degrees in the Summer. Perfect, like diving in Hawaii. I would sit on the bottom and watch my friends catching Bass and see the entire process. You guys with the new live fish finders are seeing this now. Mostly the Bass react to the falling bait, follow it down and eat it or watch it for a bit and then suck it down. It made me wait 30 seconds before I ever move a Jig or Worm. Anyway this brings us to the subject of the water at D&K. I haven’t been there in 25 years. Is it clear enough to go cherry pick the rocks and trees of all your expensive Lures? Don’t get me wrong, if the conditions are right, and we make a time, I’ll share with all those that have donated to the Lake. I don’t really use Plugs any more anyway. I get to watch the Bass, collect a ton of Lures, learn from the Masters. A perfect day.
A couple of weeks ago I had a Rod slide off a dock while I was launching my Tube at Canyon Lake. I had my Mask and retrieved the Rod and these lures off an underwater tree branch in 5 minutes. Score!

I'd say the visibility at D.K. is around 3'-4' maybe. Most of the trees tops aren't visible yet, but they're close. I've ended up with alot of crank baits and and anchors from San V and El Cap from back in the old days when they would drop the lakes after several high water years. Now the lakes go up and down every year...not the same!

I believe the only San Diego City Lake that allows water contact is San V. El Cap used to allow jet skis and water skiing, but that is now gone..
That's sounds like a lot of fun diving Paris!

Oh well, at least that means no Jet Skis at D&K. San V is usually pretty clear. Very Snaggy.

No SD lakes allow swimming, much less diving. Water levels at DK are supposed to start dropping. But they have been saying that all year.

If Mayor Toad Glorious sticks to his promise of not buying water, all the lakes will be dropping alot this summer! Float tubes and kayaks will rule the lakes!
