The weather heats up...or not, up north

Post by TaBASSco »

After some snowy spring weather, we finally had a short spell of warm weather up here in Wyoming. But right away, we got cold rain and blustery winds. But I did a quick drive (or as quick as can humanly possible, anyway) up into the Uintas mountains and was delighted to find no snow anywhere except for at the highest altitudes, meaning that it's now fish (and trail riding) season in the high country. In fact, I found a little creek just stacked up with spawning trout, and spent a few hours just wading and catching feisty bows that were stuffing their faces with freshly layed eggs. It was beautiful day for some fly fishing, casting a small bead head streamer and then some egg pattern flies. I was literally walking around with the fish and catching them on almost every cast. It was livin' the dream for sure. Crazy as it seems, there was nobody else out there, save for one local guy, even though access was easy. I literally parked 10 feet from the creek, donned my cheap hip waders and hopped right into the action. I can't wait for summer.

Wow, no freezing weather… yay!!!
I got cold looking at your last post ha ha ha.
Anyway, those are some great pics as always, and looks like you’re having a lot of fun out there.
Walking around the fish and catching them almost every cast sounds like a dream. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us as I always look forward to seeing them and I know many others of us do also. Best wishes and tight lines always :-)

Those are some gorgeous pictures, thanks for posting it makes me feel good all over. Of course you want to catch fish but catching the views is worth it even if you didn’t catch fish. Thanks for the post.

I haven’t seen you fishing the Green below the dam. It has been spectacular the couple times I did. I even had huge Browns assault small Rainbows in several deep pools. The basic drift from the dam to the first pick up spot was good for 85 Trout my last trip. Absolutely the best Trout fishing I’ve ever done. Size wise they were up to 5 pounds and in beautiful shape, thick and healthy.

I have hiked down to the river below the dam and fished. Last year in February. It was a beautiful day, but very slow for fish at that time. The people that I talked to that had been there since early in the morning had not had much luck. Maybe if I hired a guide in a drift boat, I would have done better. But I do have a "secret" lake that I get big browns and bows out of, especially in the fall time.

Sadly, I had to move up here and retire from retirement (in other words: work for a living) in order to be able to afford to live this lavish outdoors lifestyle.
You can bet that I'll keep posting here.
