Sept 19th...and a new lure for me
Hey all I wanted to share a new lure (for me at least) that I doubt most of you have ever heard of. At least those who do not BFS or ultralight fish. It accounted for over 30 topwater bass yesterday at Murray. Probably 15 were dinks with the rest being 2 lb clones... except...I did manage to pull in 3 of them over 3 lbs as well. I was fishing it on a Dobyns 701c with an Ark gravity reel. It's such a tiny topwater that I fished it on 6 lb. braid to a 2 foot long 6 lb. fluorocarbon leader.
It's called a Tsurinoya Flicker. It's 7cm long and weighs 8.4 grams. Tsurinoya is a Chinese company and the thing costs $4.26 on Aliexpress. Quite a difference from the Lucky Craft BFS baits I usually buy. It works and looks amazing, but the hooks were pretty iffy so I upgraded them.
It's a tiny bait but it has a tungsten tail weight and rattle. I can easily walk it. But the real magic happens on a fast jerky retrieve. It darts erratically on and just below the surface, (a lot like a Mega bass Karashi) but this one even jumps out of the water at times. It was honestly hard to tell the difference between it and the fleeing bait the bass were chasing.
I finally lost the thing after a couple of hours of amazing topwater action. A big one smashed it....peeled drag for a few seconds and then parted my light leader. I probably should have re-tied but oh well! I've already ordered a replacement and a couple other tiny Tsurinoya baits to try. I mean the prices are low enough that I won't be too butt-hurt if there are some duds I suppose?
Anyway I thought I'd share. Tight lines all!

Chris, it really was! When they are chasing those tiny silversides on top I can't imagine a better (or cheaper) bait to throw honestly.

Re: Sept 19th...and a new lure for me
That is a great looking lure! Dang.... the bass seem to really like it so much that they can't stop trying to eat it!
Glad you had a great day again out at the Murray. I am pretty sure you will picking up more of those baits soon
and sorry to hear about you losing it, but still probably was still better to lose it on a healthy bass eh?
Always great to see your posts especially from Murray where you have mastered so many ways to catch bass there by
being creative with your bait selections. Again, if I ever bet you when you first showed me those small BFS baits
that they would not catch bass....I would have lost lots of money. Again nice job out there as always!

Re: Sept 19th...and a new lure for me
That's awesome! Thanks for the tip. Do you tie the leader on directly or use a snap / swivel? I use snaps for ease of lure change, but I'm guessing it might be quite better to direct tie. I'm sure someone will tell me to tie directly as I'm missing bites with the extra tackle. I just need to work on my knot tying most likely. If enough people tell me, maybe I'll do it!
There were hundreds of busters on Miramar yesterday. I wasn't out on the water, but was watching the action (and the boats right in position). It was crazy! You would have slayed out there with that bait I'm guessing.

Re: Sept 19th...and a new lure for me
I use a small snap. It seems a whole lot easier than tying a loop knot every time I change baits. The only reason I use a short leader on these walking baits is because the hooks seem to tangle a lot more on straight braid. The leader is stiffer than braid hence fewer foul ups IMHO.MiramarMike wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 1:34 pm That's awesome! Thanks for the tip. Do you tie the leader on directly or use a snap / swivel? I got this crawler thing on Temu for less than $2. It was working wonders at Barrett a couple weeks ago. 8cm only 6.5 grams so its fun on light line!

Just received my $2 Tsurinoya Flicker from AliExpress in the same color, first order discount. Looks legit and arrived way sooner than expected - will give it a whirl soon!

Re: Sept 19th...and a new lure for me
It's not bad right? It's really beautiful right out of the box, but the finish doesn't last as long as something like a Lucky Craft. Mine was pretty beat up but still catching them. The tungsten weights rattle great, and it both walks and darts really nicely.
The hooks that come on it are super sticky sharp but also pretty brittle. I had to replace them as both of them broke.
Overall, for less than 1/3 the price of many of the Japanese lures I fish, I think Tsurinoya nailed it. It walks every bit as good as any high end topwater in my box and I've caught a bunch on it already.
I'll look forward to hearing what you think after you fish it.
