Naw, blackcloud. Their bodies were more like bluegill than greenies....and they had short rounded pectoral fins like a a green sunfish, not the longer, pointed fins like bluegill or tilapia.
It was in the pool where where I crossed that one time, and found a kingsnake eating a ratter..does that ...

Re: Mission Bay Veterans Day
Looks like fun...and the white seaperch!
When I spent more time soaking bait, some years I'd get gazillions of them...and other years, almost none.
Always wondered whether they were good eating.....

Re: Invasive algae weed in Cays
It took years and about six million dollars to remove it from Agua Hedionda Lagoon....

Re: Amish and vaccinations
"Ask yourself why there is no autism, ADD, autoimmune disease found in Amish people who DO NOT VACCINATE their children."
Okay, who says Amish don't vaccinate..and that there is no autism, ADD, blah blah blah?
Just because some knobber said it, doesn't mean you can't google it and check the facts ...

Re: Native Rainbow Trout
So cool.
Bad knees, but mostly just lazy so I don't do this kinda thing anymore. But it reminds me of the easy-access spots along Beasore Creek (Near Yosemite), where you only have to hike a little bit to find small, very wild fish in tiny pools.

Re: Confidence bait or comfort bait
My favorite creek bait (3 in bass assassin) is a comfort bait, but not nearly effective in lakes.
"Why are you throwing that dumb thing here?"
"It gets bit."
"You haven't had a bite in a half hour."
"Yeah, but I remember getting a three pounder off that rock wall over there...back in 2016."

Re: Mission Bay Spotties 12/12
Dang-o!
Four pound line is gutsy.
I tried it a couple times from shore but lost fish in the weeds.
Even in the float tube (so I can get over 'em and pull straight up)....I nearly always stick to six.

Re: Why do I feel the need to fish a big swimbait?
1. It helps you justify buying a ginormous Lexa and corresponding rod.
Been there, but sold the reel a year later because I wasn't using it much....got too many other rabbit holes to run down.

New Year...New Goals...
Not really new, but I have been deleting a bunch of old photos, and looking at all the "I gotta get back there" spots...
Those two creeks up in the Cuyamacas.
That one creek up in Big Bear. And maybe that other creek, too.
Desert canals

Solstice Spotties no pics
4.5 Fish Per Hour.
South Bay float tubing.
The wide open winter bite is not here yet.
Got a handful of foot long spotties.
And thirty typical SoBay rats.
No bonus species.
Calm conditions helped me detect a dozen really subtle bites. Used small tube baits, grubs and even got one on a tiny spoon.

Re: TP Feeding Frenzy 12/27/23 ???
Could just be a lot of baitfish. In 2005 there were anchovies and sardines that were so thick I saw them all summer long from shore...saw them every time I fished from IB to Oceanside.
If the same thing was happening now it would explain the birds...and maybe the whole dolphin-orca thing.

Put your wallet and car keys in a waterproof, floating container and do not open the container for any reason until you need to unlock the car to drive home.

Yeah, since I have an unlimited supply of replacement tubes, I tear 'em off and rinse the leadhead carefully...and let it dry before installing new tube bodies.

Modding molds to make underspins, tailspins...
Okay, my friend Gus gave me a bitchin Jackall tailspin. Casts a mile, catches fish. And once you find that guy in the Ukraine who makes knockoff molds cheap, you can build your own. But before my mold arrives in a few more weeks...took a shot at modifying the ultra minnow mold to make tailspins ...

Re: All these lagoons…
I used to fish Agua Hedionda's outer lagoon. Shore fishing is legal.
If the lagoon's being dredged (happens every few years, don't know if it'll happen this year), it stirs up the food and the bite can be insane for sargo and spotfin croaker and other species. Emphasis on "can be." It can also suck ...

Re: If you think Daiwa's T-wing is juuust a bit busy....
The line comes off the spool like a spinning reel: No backlashes.
The line winds on the spool like a baitcaster: No line twist.
Obviously this is the ultimate reel, and it was shut down by Big Fishing. They want to control you!

Re: DIY Rod Tube holder advice needed
Black ABS pipe is lighter than comparably sized PVC...but costs more.
PVC pipe is what I chose. On my first build, I had a stabilizer arm going under the tube. Didn’t like it. It caught moss, eelgrass, and even dead kelp stringers. So this version has a short pipe that extends OVER the pontoon ...
