Re: Padres/Pitch Clock/Affecting batters?

Circling back around....
It seems like people have settled into a new pitch clock routine.
Mostly, I just watch the Condensed Games on MLB.com, where the pitch clock stuff isnt' as noticeable. But there have been a couple times when the Padres' game was featured and I could watch the whole thing ...

Nature walk...with bass.

Sorry if the pics show up out of order...they go where they want, regardless of where I put 'em in the text.

Got that out of the way. Only 2 bass, saw a crap ton of 'em but they just weren't interested in what I was throwing. In a couple spots there were bluegill on the ...

New grunion rules....

got this in an email from ca dfw today:
"The NEW grunion season is upon us and anglers should familiarize themselves with season updates in the California Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations booklet. Due to recent population declines with the species, June was added to the no-take closure (now April 1 ...

Derp City...population: me

I love it when a plan comes together.

This one didn't. Fun, just not epic.

Tried to combine a long tide ride with trying out some different lures. Kicked back and forth a lot, to cast said lures into specific spots. So at the end of the day....I had no gas left to properly get after the spotties ...

Re: Advice to beginners on hooking plastics

I like that video w the smaller straight hook, skin hooked on the side of the worm. Smaller hook, less visible, and when the fish takes it, there's not a big wad of plastic in the gap of the hook. Gonna try that on the creek with small worms, to see if it'll get more hookups on bluegill and green ...

Re: First wild trout

Eastern Sierra (although it probably works just find other places as well) tip:
Check out maps of creeks/rivers to find the ones that have drive-in campgrounds along their course. Rock Creek and Lee Vining Creek are good examples.
Park your car at the lowest campground or somewhere nearby.
Fish ...

Re: Inline spinner advice....

I ordered up some parts and the popular siwash hook has an overly long shank, I think. This is a #6, gonna get some #8s and try again. I am also gonna make some with #4 mosquito hooks....about the same size bend, but shorter shank than the siwash in the pic.

Re: Torrey Pines Skunk-Away

I have not fished TP much in recent years. But if I was going to pick a day with the best shot of getting cruising fish in the shallow water, it would be the last few days of July and a few days into August and fish the hours right before high tide, up between North TP and Del Mar City Beach. The ...

Re: Torrey Pines Skunk-Away

That's the TP Paradox. Sometimes the fish are right where the people are. And sometimes you hike up the beach to find so many weeds that you can't fish....
What's right between the parking lots at TP? the widest, flattest section of beach for miles. And people, too. Corbina in particular don't seem ...

Mission Bay Snooze-a-thon

Very slow day at Bonita Cove/Mariner's Basin this afternoon, just like the tide chart and barometer said it would be. But the rain kept the people away so parking wasn't too bad.
Only got a couple of spotties, but they averaged 13 inches.
One of 'em ate a bass jig (green football head, 4" spider ...

Re: Struggling to catch leopard sharks from shore

I have only caught larger leopards inside the bays. Seen 'em in the surf, but haven't caught a big one there. In my limited experience (couple dozen sharks) a fresh caught fish gets picked up more often; never got a decent sized leopard on a bait that had been frozen. The current all tackle IGFA ...

Re: Most fun and unusual baits for bass

Okay, so how come no one makes a ringneck snake lure?

These little beauties are natural forage for fish.

Drainage ditch cats...

Why yes, I am sorting my old photo files.

Eastern Sierra whitewater report

Many campground closed due to swampy conditions.
My jam is flicking spinners in little creeks. High, fast water limits presentation in most spots. Gonna hit parts of the San Joaquin tomorrow. Gonna have to be past the summit by 7 am to avoid the shuttle. The road to the postpile is open but the ...

Re: Eastern Sierra whitewater report

On the way home, I stopped at Baker Creek Campground outside of Big Pine.

Got two little brownies out of the various creek branches. The campground is very nice, and has two ponds that probably get stocked.

I made a couple casts into a pond...snagged a broken line that had a foot-long stocker ...
