Sounds about right cast right briskly walk with line briskly retrieve.
Was a total of 2 mins tops before recast lol
Also keep in mind the current direction on hard south the pier creates a break so you get less current closer to it. If the current flips north same concept with Jetty. I have found ...

late report 10/10
Friday 7-11 am. A good amount of walking in the first hour and a half to try to find a break in probably 3 miles of shallow/flat sand bottom due to accumulated sand from previous months. Finally, I came across a small cut next to a shallow sandbar with a good amount of N current from the short ...

Mission 10/16
Got out at first light for couple hours. Great conditions this morning, water temp felt around 65, little surge if any & no kelp/grass whatsoever. Not a skunk but not an all out bite either. Mostly bait stealing nibblers but managed 4 perchies, largest 8". Alternated between mussel meat & dried lugs ...

10/17 Mission Beach
First time Surf fishing. I was fishing in the morning for 7:00 am to 9:00 am. Caught 5 Perch. A lot of fish nibbling on my bait. Maybe I will try a small hook next time. No seaweed that was a good thing.

Thanks for the report Joe. Gulp worms seem to have been the hot bait past week or so.

Just out of curiosity what size hook are you using. I ask because the nibblers I keep hearing about usually end up hooked for me. Curious if upsizing my hook will help me survive harassment by the fingerlings long enough for a little more quality to get in.

Thanks for this report and all of your other reports. Since, your leader is getting tangled with your braid, you might wanted to consider shortening it up, a bit. That might help. I'm relatively new to braid, as well, and I have had some "beginner" issues for sure. Tight lines to you!

Torrance Beach 10/20
This late season corbina ate a crab right at the edge of the sandy brown water. Good news is they are still around.

Re: Torrance Beach 10/20
Nice late season bean there bud. Crabs pretty much history on our SD beaches. No beds and blind digging might get a few hard shells but no roe. Alternative baits . . . mussel, clam, worms & ghosties bait de jour now. Gulp camo & sand worms are getting good action, lot of perch being taken on them.

Hey fellow surf anglers,
I'm going to be giving a surf fishing seminar at Tackle Day, November 1 at Fisherman's landing. I'll be covering the equipment I use and will demonstrate how I hook and fish baits like lug/bloodworms, sand crabs, ghost shrimp, mussel... and whatever other baits I can find ...

I use uni knots all the time. For surf fishing, they're strong, and they're quick and easy to tie, especially when you're in the middle of a bite. I haven't had one of those knots fail me, yet. Go get some more!

About the same time frame, conditions, and results for me in Bolsa Chica with freeze/dried blood worms... I should have done a report, but was too lazy...

Re: North County trips.
O.k. It's done, took the first of probably several skunks at Del Mar—a few bumps on the grub, which I could fish open hook no problem. A few bumps on a 2" fake blood worm. Surf was 4' high/high-slack tide churned up in the middle of the day.

Re: North County trips.
I hear you. I was out this morning from 7 to 9:30 farther up the coast. From 7 to 8:30 nothing, no even a bump. 8:30 to 9:15 only 2 perch, both about 5”.
