late report 10/10
Friday 7-11 am. A good amount of walking in the first hour and a half to try to find a break in probably 3 miles of shallow/flat sand bottom due to accumulated sand from previous months. Finally, I came across a small cut next to a shallow sandbar with a good amount of N current from the short-period NW windswell, in addition to a strong surge from the deep high tide. Started working the jerkbait down current into the cut for nada, then switched to a metal jig and bouncing along the bottom in the same fashion for 4 surf perch, all about 10 inches or so. All fish bit the jig near the edge of the sandbar just before feeding into the cut. Pretty good action until the tide came up too high, making the current even stronger and shutting down the bite. Looks like the perch were hanging right over the edge and waiting for something to fall into the deeper water.

Very cool to catch perch on a metal jig. I also like your description of the conditions. I hope you catch the iron-trifecta next time... halibut/croaker/perch.
