Re: Mission Beach 3-7-2026
Got three big perch this morning--two on sandworms and one on a kastmaster. One on the Kastmaster was big and fat and dripping baby perch that were bigger than my 1/2 oz kastmaster. I had read others talk about dripping babies but i had no idea the babies were so big. Fun day. My son and my buddy ...

Mission Beach 3/13
I was fishing in the morning for 2 hours. Got five perch nothing big. Sand crabs were on the beach. But they were all very small like they just hatched. That's got to be a good sign . Only saw two big ones. But the waves got to them before I could get to them.

Mission Beach 3-14-2026
Nice glassy conditions from 0645 to 0820. Throwing the kastmaster, but no interest from the finned ones. Saw 4 others trying, including a fly fisherman. Hope someone caught something!

Re: Mission Beach 3-14-2026
I was out there this morning, too, but I must’ve been a bit north of you as I didn’t see anyone else fishing at all.
Agreed on conditions. Pretty calm as the morning high tide receded. Little bit of a northward current but it didn’t seem persistent or even all that strong. I was trying to walk ...

Mission Bch 3-16-2026
Personal best jacksmelt! Glassy gentle conditions from 0645 to 0820. Salad become moderate to heavy halfway into session. A few perch bites, one dink landed. All action on the chrome and orange kastmaster.

Re: Mission Bch 3-16-2026
That's a pretty large jacksmelt! No skunk is a good thing; especially when salad is on the menu. Thanks for the photo!

Re: Mission Bch 3-16-2026
Over the past 10+ years fishing Mission & PB beaches, never caught or seen one caught from the surf until the past 6 months or so. Perhaps the warmer than usual winter water temps ? Anyone care to opine ?? Thanks for sharing also !

Re: Mission Bch 3-16-2026
Jacksmelt was not among my initial guesses when it hit! Decent fight. Maybe they are more common than we think (?) but the strategies / baits / lures surf fishermen normally throw at them doesn't result in many catches? They do occur in the diets of CA sea lions at the Channel Islands, though in ...

Re: Mission Beach 3/18
Nice conditions this AM notwithstanding a fairly strong surge from the SW swell. I'd like to think it was responsible for the lethargic activity. Just a lot of taps & bait stealing from dinks in the nursery. Could not get a decent hit on mussel meat, dried lugs nor Gulp sand worm. Picked off a ...

Got guitarfish, small ray, and legal hali on Torrey Pines today, everything on LC 110.
Guitarfish was pulling like a freight train, took good 5 minutes of fighting to land.

Congrats on the legal and other critters. I may try Black's tomorrow. Yesterday afternoon I saw many deep pockets along a wide stretch during low tide.

Torrey Pines 3-19-2026
On the water before sunrise, there was already someone fishing in front of the lagoon. I worked my way north of the inlet, chucking the blue and chrome kastmaster into gentle rollers. Shivered my way through some missed bites, no waders today I decided. Doh! Missed a bite then lost a hooked fish ...

Re: North County trips.
Went out from 4pm to 5:30. 2 perch, combined length under 10”. A few more nibbles, probably the same size. Both on camo gulp. Switched to bloodworm gulp - no takers.

HBB8 3/21
Went down to mission beach to fish the HBB8 (Honey Badger Baits) tournament this morning. Tons of holes from tower 11 through 13, but they didn’t fill in til a bit later since the low tide was around 5:45am. Fished the LC 110 for a few hours, switched to c rig after some nice angler gifted me a cup ...
