Fished Mission Beach from 6:30-10:00. Beautiful morning out there, and I was almost disappointed because I’d wanted to try some new rain gear I’d gotten
Instead, it was all sunshine and literal rainbows.
The current was a little strong at times but certainly manageable/navigable. Once I ...

Mission Beach 11/22
Nothing out of the ordinary to report from Mission Beach this morning. Pretty clean water, little bit of a current as the morning high tide came in, very minor grass/kelp that mostly came off the line as it hit it.
6:30-9:00ish yielded 6 or so perch. Slower day than previous outings but the perch ...

Mission Beach 11/23
The mornings are starting to get a little chilly!! Hard to feel the bait as I set up the early casts 🥶
Shorter hours for me today since the bite died earlier than yesterday, and I used that experience to just shut things down instead of holding out hope for any last nibbles. First cast was in the ...

Re: Mission Beach 11/23
Thanks again for the continuing report! I don't know if you've tried this...I like to take the lip from bigger mussel, just the lip, and thread it up my hook, like a worm. It stays great on the hook for hard casts and the trailing 2" below the hook looks like a worm as you retreive it along the ...

Re: Big Low tides
I'm a believer that you should try anything once. Fish those low tides and let us know how it goes!

Re: Mission Beach 12/13
Just a thought. When I was growing up we had a strip of ivy growing next to the street. It was full of Snails. I would gather up those maybe 20-30 at a time in the early morning. My Mom Froze them and when we went Surf Fishing, which was often, we would cut them in half with scissors and hook it on ...

Mission Beach 12/24
I got out one last time before this storm rolls through but was already seeing some of the effects at Mission Beach this morning between 6:30-9:00.
Wind and strong currents to the north made fishing feel like a bit more of a chore than I’d like for it to be, but I did still manage to reel in four ...

Mission Beach 1/10
Oops, meant to post this a bit earlier.
Nice conditions with the outgoing tide this morning at Mission Beach from 6:30 until about 9:30. Light current, smallish waves, calm tide and almost no kelp/grass. The bite died off hard around 8:30 but I had a pit stop to make on the way home so I spent an ...

Re: North County trips.
Swimming or Floating is the catch . Have seen multiple citations given for standing and spearing Corbina at TP State Beach . The guys had said " we do it all the time " and the officer said they were lucky , he wouldn't confiscate gear. He did however confiscate the fish the people had . I have done ...

Torrance Beach 1/21
I made it to the beach for an hour. Found 5 sand crabs and converted 2 of them to on back-to-back casts.

1/22 L/C Mission Beach
I never fished a Lucky Craft lure before, so I decided to dedicate this morning to it. Got six Perch all a good size. 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.. was a bit chilly down there. No grass or seaweed. The waves were getting bigger. It's hard to believe a Perch can eat a bait that size.

Re: Torrance Beach 1/21
A couple of nice ones Mike for off season. You've had good success with that sand crab rake. Still finding them close to the surface or digging deep ?
I use a right-handed baitcaster so I hold the rod in my left hand and rake in my right. Each time a wave recedes, I kick sand into the rake with ...

Re: Anyone seeing Macks at piers?
Not personally, and this doesn't quite answer your question, but I've seen reports in other social media groups of mackerel being caught recently at Embarcadero Marina by the convention center.

Re: Anyone seeing Macks at piers?
I've been picking them up here and there by the Shelter Island launch ramp, fishing dropshot for other stuff. Feisty little things.

Mission Beach 2/1
Made it out to Mission Beach this morning to get some fishing in before peak high tide. It was messy. Couple line snags in the grass, including a full on snap, strong currents, and very powerful waves. Surf report says 7’ but I’m sitting at Woody’s drinking a coffee and the water is coming up to ...

Mission Beach 2/8
Much better conditions at Mission Beach with the later low tide. 6:15 until about 8:00, six perch total. Most mid size, a couple finger sized. Lug worms were the easy preference for the fish. Mussels got some nibbles but only one actually caught on them. Interestingly (or not, I’m not sure if it ...

Re: North County trips.
Using Surfline, I picked the easiest window on Thursday morning, still in bad conditions for LC, as far as I understand it... and just two perch on it in the gentilest sea state that morning had to offer. It started at 3-4 feet and grew steadily to 5-6 feet waves with a high tide.

Henshaw has been great.
The past two weekends I've been going out with Tubefly . I've been exclusively sight fishing for Carp, but Bill doesn't have the patience and vicinity-fishes with an indicator. I got four carp last week and six yesterday, and lost a whole bunch more. But more importantly, I had the most shots on ...
