Instead, it was all sunshine and literal rainbows.
The current was a little strong at times but certainly manageable/navigable. Once I was able to settle in to a relatively calm spot, the perch were biting on mussels all throughout the morning. Not sure what the final count was, but easily 10+. They were mostly on the smaller side, except for a couple tanks I pulled in near the end of my session. Large patches of kelp were in the water, but with a little patience as I watched them float by, they weren’t much of an issue. Not unexpected considering the weather lately, and fishing at high tide. Better to see large chunks than a smattering of smaller amounts everywhere.
Most of the perch safely swam off before the aggressive seagulls got an easy meal. They’re getting vicious!
Fun session. Very light crowd at the beach. It’s nice that we aren’t quite at the (relatively) really cold mornings yet, although my Padres hat has been replaced by a beanie to fight the early morning chill just a bit. Best of luck to anyone getting out there during the week ahead!
