Took a trip down Memory Lane with shrimp pump in hand. Historically, good bite on incoming tide and today followed the pattern. '
23 or so fish, seven species. Sand and Spotted Bass, round ray, dink halibut, a buttload of chunky yellowfin croaker, diamond turbot and a rock wrasse.

Mission bay 8/10
This Sunday was rougher than the last. Spent a good bit of time working some new baits with little to no luck. 20 fish total a mixed bag of spotties and calicos. Few of the spotties being legal or just shy of it. Most were caught on the incoming tide in the morning. Bite shut down for me around 9 ...

Kelp Paddy Dorado & Yellowtail 8/4/2023
Late report from yesterday...
Me and the broski picked up 1/2 scoop of quality bait that was well worth the line, had two double hookups just south of 302. Then farmed a couple of open water dorado, and landed a yellowtail that made multiple runs into the paddy. They bit 15-25# flytline and the ...

Re: private charter recommendations?
Over the years many members on the old SDFish have recommended Brothers Sport Fishing . If money is no object and a high end trip in comfort is warranted Game Changer is a first class outfit . There are so many choices its mind boggling . I fish my own boat so no help as far as experience with any ...

Re: Tuna Tips Early July 2023
The “problem” now days is people are fishing braid to a short, usually fluoro leader. Takes all stretch out (stretch can be your friend). Mono, you’ll hardly every straighten a hook. So the compromise is a “short” (preferably casting distance + so you’re not casting the knot through the guides) top ...

Re: Mission Beach Conditions
Heard yesterday from a few folks that Carlsbad was real bad and Mission was "chocolate milk". Checked a few beach cams this afternoon - - Mission still looked chocolate, PB was worse . . dark green/brown. OB looked ok as did Coronado

NOC 6/19
Met a couple of buddies for a little surf fishing... Ton's of small sand crabs everywhere, so doubling or tripling them up was the bait of choice...
Also tons of small BSP for the taking... We all got all we needed of them but were hoping for corbina or croakers.. One buddy got 3, and I got one ...

Spotfin on the fly
My first spotfin! Red krabbypatty fly at Blacks, 7:00AM, -1ft tide. Kelp was a nuisance and got worse as the tide came in. I did not see any corbina.

Pacific Beach 7/20
A variety this morning; started off at 05:30 with a dinner plate size ray followed by a small leo. Perch bite was slow at first but turned on around 6. Got 10 overall plus a mid size corbina, about 14", over next 1.5 hours, mostly on sand crabs but a few on some left over ghost shrimp. Perch mostly ...

Re: Where are the corbina??
If you are willing to head North I can prolly put you on some Corbs sight casting, although I’ve had Leo’s and Stripers rush the Crabs and make me wish I was fishing a little heavier. I throw 6 pound mainline and 8 pound flourocarbon leader, from an hour before sunrise until the swimmers push us out ...

Re: blacks mixed bag 7/20
I made it to blacks yesterday, thanks for this thread—first time. I took the glider port instructions. The scenic views and hang gliders were truly incredible. It was the first high tide of the day, and the current was ripping south with large and small vegetation roaming with it—no Bueno.

Re: blacks mixed bag 7/20
Blacks has been AMAZING this year. Some of the best soft structure I've seen in the past few years. The spotfin were schooling and tailing like crazy in April/May, and now the corbina are charging in the waves.

Quality Over Quantity - Mid Summer Surf Report
Sight-fishing between Blacks and Del Mar has been "excellent" this season, except for the whole catching part. This year is the first time I've seen spotfin tailing in the surf, but almost like a first-cast-curse, I've only been able to catch the first one I spotted (pun intended) in late May, using ...

Mission Beach 8/3
Back at it at Mission Beach this morning. Better conditions and was getting more bites, although only two small guys made their way to shore. A tiny perch and (I think?) a baby croaker. Must’ve felt bad for my day yesterday so it humored me

Pacific Beach 8/3
After over a week on the sidelines with back spasms decided to give it a go this AM. Photo tells it all of conditions. The junk was washing back into the cast zone all up & down the beach, some spots would clear momentarily then fill in again. Lot of false kelp hits. That said managed a half dozen ...

Re: North County trips.
I am starting to feel too lucky....It's gonna end. However, if you were there, Butch, you would have caught this fish today, at Torrey Pines Lifeguard Station 4 in the middle of the day amidst a sea of swimmers. Nuts. I hooked another, but a family member lost it at the beach....I could have lost it ...

North county 8/13
Went to Carlsbad area 8/13 for my second try at the surf. It was slower this time with a ton of wave action. Got one decent perch. Wasn’t going great, so I hit the little Batiquitos lagoon jetty and caught several baby sand bass, a baby calico, and a rock wrasse. Went a little farther south for the ...
