Re: gear suggestions

Yes those will work. Just know not all fins are created equal. I prefer neoprene stocking foot waders. Check Amazon. You’ll need an air pump, manual or small battery/ac mattress pump. Life jacket. Lots of deals on auto/manual inflating pfd’s right now

Re: gear suggestions

Hi Tom, my preference is hip waters, but I sit on a cushion so my butt doesn't get wet. I have Frogg Toggs Rana II hip waders (super cheap, less than $50) and they're comfortable and durable. I don't think it's cold enough in San Diego to necessitate neoprene, I use wool socks and a thermal leggings ...

Re: gear suggestions

Unless you have really long legs, you probably want chest waders. Sitting on top of a cushion in a tube will not leave much leg in the water and when the fins break the surface, that can spook fish too. Plus, when a nearby boat causes a wake, the water will surge up higher too.

I fish most ...

Barrett Season Wrap — Thanks Everyone!

Hard to believe the season’s already over. This was our third year of bass fishing, and it all started with our first trip to Barrett. Funny enough, I think the fishing was actually better in 2023 and 2024 than it was this year, but my numbers tell a different story. First season I was averaging ...

Barrett Report - May 21st 🔥

Arrived at 4am with RickM and we were super excited to experience the "new" lake, and indeed it definitely feels different with the water levels so high. Parking was great and the haul down with a battery and trolling motor was much easier since the dock was so close.

The boat ride to Hauser was ...

Barrett report September 9th

Hello,

Here's the update from me for September 9th. Got there right before sunrise. Slight wind from the north and about 70 degrees F. Water was also cooler at 76. Did the usual poking around heading towards Hauser. Did something I have never done before at Barrett and caught a fish on the very ...

Barrett report September 13th

Hi everyone,

Quick report today. Got there about 0530, it was a little cold out, but when I got to the water, it was down to 74.3 degrees F. Went straight to Hauser, since I'm headed there anyway, over in Becky's cove picked up two on poppers. Rambled around on my way to the back and picked a total ...

Ecstatic finish

After at least twenty five years of fishing at Barrett, I HAD to fish Wednesday, since I hadn't been all year. Just couldn't break my streak.

Started around 1:30 due to complications of getting there. Went across from the dock to where the dirt at water edge is a light brown, almost tan color. Got ...

May 12

Made my first visit to Barrett on Sunday May 12. Got to the kayak launch area at 4:30. The fog on the lake made visibility poor in the dark but it was getting lighter and lighter so it wasn't long until I didn't need my flashlight. Headed to Pine Creek to start the day, and per the recommendation of ...

Sunday May 19th

I’m sure some of the regulars had typical May Barrett days but we sure didn’t. The girl and I teamed up for 25 bass to 3lbs but it was a pick at best with no topwater or boilers to throw at. A far cry from our 44 last Saturday in a short morning session. My guess is the wind and cold, wet foggy ...

Barrett Report June 19

Got out at 0430 with Chuck and Joe. Of course we all headed different ways, Chuck to a cove where he had success last week and I pedaled to Becky's cove. Joe passed me on the way to Hauser and that was the last I saw of him today. Air was a little chilly at 54F, slight wind, but water a pleasant 75 ...

Weird day & a trophy bass (report for 7/7)

Hey Barrett crew,

Me and my sons (8 & 10) were on the water by about 5:30am Wednesday and fished until 7pm. Long, hot day with a big surprise waiting for us at the dock. We were lucky enough to meet up with JWall and his lovely wife Cynthia in the middle of the Pine arm, and while we did see plenty ...

Banner Final Day @ Barrett 09.07

My son and I started off in Hauser with some nice cloud cover caught a few here and there on crawler, Rapala #5, Flukes and Senkos. We had about 25 by mid morning but it started getting hot with full sun and kinda slowed down. We checked some of the steep rock walls and tried a little deeper for 1 ...

Sunday 9-22…2024 Finale

Headed out right about 5:30 but the moon and cloudless sky made things pretty visible. Decided to stay in Hauser for the day and started in the coves on the north side to the right of the portapotty. Seemed like a good call as I got a first cast jerkbait fish followed by two more within 10 minutes ...

Sunday Apr 6

So the early charity and insider club season is on for 2025 and it sure looks like this year is going to bust out with both numbers and size. I was fortunate enough to get an invite today and happily paid the premium for myself and the better half. After a very chilly morning (low 40’s if that) the ...
