Surf City=Slab City?

Started the day by finding only 2 sand crabs, so I went with the old stand by.... Dried, frozen blood worms... I first tried Seal Beach for no bites on the SCs or BWs.. After wasting a couple of hours there, I made a run to Huntington Beach... Good choice... After a few misfires with 2 dinky BSP, I ...

Re: 1st decent perch...

If you're into perch, might suggest Silver Strand if its not too far a drive for you. The perch guys in SD have been killing it there this year, more slabs reported than I can remember past few years. A buddy got a dozen or so over the weekend, four at 13" and a 15"+ model. I've seen the pics. Go ...

My PB halibut from the surf at just over 27"... I don't really fish these guys as I prefer corbina and SFC but have caught a ton of them as by-catch, but mostly non-legals... Only a couple of legals... You would be surprised how many you can catch with sand crabs ...

Pacific Beach 8/21

Really good perch bite yesterday for about an hour, 7 - 8 am on the incoming tide. All on small sand crabs that had roe on a #6. Could not find any softies. Got 10 in all, more than half were 10-11" plus. Was alternating baits with another rod setup with a larger #2 hook using lugworms and ghost ...

Re: gear suggestions

Yes those will work. Just know not all fins are created equal. I prefer neoprene stocking foot waders. Check Amazon. You’ll need an air pump, manual or small battery/ac mattress pump. Life jacket. Lots of deals on auto/manual inflating pfd’s right now

Re: gear suggestions

Hi Tom, my preference is hip waters, but I sit on a cushion so my butt doesn't get wet. I have Frogg Toggs Rana II hip waders (super cheap, less than $50) and they're comfortable and durable. I don't think it's cold enough in San Diego to necessitate neoprene, I use wool socks and a thermal leggings ...

Re: gear suggestions

Unless you have really long legs, you probably want chest waders. Sitting on top of a cushion in a tube will not leave much leg in the water and when the fins break the surface, that can spook fish too. Plus, when a nearby boat causes a wake, the water will surge up higher too.

I fish most ...

Barrett Season Wrap — Thanks Everyone!

Hard to believe the season’s already over. This was our third year of bass fishing, and it all started with our first trip to Barrett. Funny enough, I think the fishing was actually better in 2023 and 2024 than it was this year, but my numbers tell a different story. First season I was averaging ...
